Wa ri o to Wi n g s January 2018 Volume 3 Issue 1 P a ge 4 Chapter Educator Mickey Turner, Chapter Educator NEW YEAR S RESOLUTIONS Making New Year s resolutions are as traditional as the New Year itself. This is the time of year when people are thinking about what improvements they can make in their lives. Maybe change their behavior, maybe lose weight or try something new. So while you re thinking of resolutions to improve your life, give some thought to resolutions that improve your motorcycle safety. Here are some suggestions: Resolution # 1: Take an ARC riding course this year. Everyone should take a rider course periodically to maintain his or her riding skills. Learning and practicing proper techniques is the best way to ensure your own safety. Resolution # 2: Enroll in or renew your level and commitment in the Rider s Education Program. The only action needed is to commit to being a safe rider (or co-rider). As you become more experienced and more committed, move to a higher level by attending seminars and taking CPR/ First Aid classes. Make a good example for others by practicing safe riding and wearing proper riding apparel. Resolution # 3: Practice the T-Clock Inspection before you ride. Check the tires, gauges, oil, lights, etc. Preventive maintenance is your responsibility. Negligence can jeopardize your safety, and cost you and your co-rider greatly. Resolution # 4: Become more active in Chapter activities. This is a good way to help each other become better (safer) riders. By being active in the Chapter you can share ideas and experiences between members, you can practice riding in group situations, and know about up-coming training and seminars. Resolution # 5: Attend more seminars, practice good riding skills, and read more about motorcycle safety. You can never have too much knowledge. By attending seminars you can benefit from the latest knowledge available about safe motorcycle riding and can learn along side with those who you ll likely be riding with. Same goes for practicing. This is an opportunity to practice some skills and experience some road hazard situations in a protected environment. Read, read, read. The Internet is full of websites concerning motorcycle safety and maintenance. Good articles can be found in the Wing World. Also, the Gold Book has much useful information on what to do. Resolution # 6: Make the Year 2018 the best ever. Resolve to increase your knowledge and skills to make safe journeys that will bring us together on the roads and get us back home again. To a Safe, New Year! Mickey Turner Chapter Educator
January 2018 Wa ri o to Wi n g s Volume 3 Issue 1 Page 5 A Word from your News Letter Editors I thought I would share a few words from your news letter editor. First I need to ask for some help with the news letter, there are a few things that would make it more interesting and maybe fun to read. 1. I could use some more articles from the members. This can be trips you ve been on rides you ve taken. You may have a fun event you think some of us may like to attend. Just write a little article and share with the chapter. 2. I could use a lot of pictures. Maybe chapter events, rides or other events you ve been to that you would like to share. 3. I will even put in recipes if you send them to me. 4. I can put in advertising for any thing you may want to sell or if you are looking for something to buy. So send any information you may want added to me and it will be done. Now your staff is having a planning meeting at our next staff meeting. We will try to plan events for the next year. We would like to do this so you can plan your calendar and include the things the chapter has to offer. Again if you have events you would like to attend as a chapter or rides you would like to go on let us know at the November meeting and we will try to work it in. We need to plan more rides and stick to them. We need to plan some recruiting events if we want the chapter grow. I would like to see us do more community events and maybe find a good local charity to support. Please if you have any ideas let some one on staff know. Don t forget we have the Winter event coming Jan 13 2018. The same day all officers should attend the Operations Meeting. We tried to set this up so every one that has to travel to the meeting would only have to come one time for both meetings. Remember at the Winter event we will have the Couple Of the Year selection, so come and support your favorite couple. Make sure you set aside time in April for the Spring Fling. We promise to have a lot of fun again this year. Dennis & Jan Peterson News Letter Editors 931-302-5283 tnchapterq@gmail.com
Here is Pat and Tom receiving their well deserved Spirit award for all they have done for the chapter. Here is Connie Turner giving Cindy Bidwell an Appreciation Award for all she has done for the chapter. Here is a hungry group. The food was great and there was a lot of fun for everyone. Ruth was unable to be at the party because of family matters but George was not going to let her be forgotten so he wore Ruth's shirt to make sure she was with us in name and spirit. At least that s what he came up with. Nobody noticed until we where leaving (even George).
Veterans Day Parade. Here is Boots with his Rat Rod. Phyllis drove it to the staging area and Boots drove it in the parade. It was a hit and also very cold to start with. Here is Jan and Cindy waiting for the parade to start. The day started out cold but warmed up nicely. Here are some picture from the bowling alley before staging. We had a fairly good turn out and flew a lot of our flags.

January 2018 Warioto Wings Volume 3 Issue 1 Page 12 Here are some things to remember, cut them out and put them on your refrigerator or bulletin board to help you remember. The Chapter is still looking for some new members, so if you have friends that like to ride and need someone to ride with be sure to invite them to our gatherings on the last Monday of each month. Also invite some friends to come ride with us when we have rides or dinner rides. Remember the more friends we have to ride with the more fun we will have and the better chance we will have of finding someone to ride with when we have the desire. Your news letter editor could use some pictures. These can be things you ve done with the chapter or things on your own every one loves pictures of your travels or camping trips or just day rides so please help me out. You can e-mail them to me tnchapterq@gmail.com. Watch the new year for some big changes. The staff hopes to make some changes and maybe recruit some new members The third Saturday of each month we are going to try to have a ride planned for the Chapter. This maybe a day long ride or if you want we could do an overnight ride. The main purpose is to get out and ride and enjoy each others company. Another part of this ride will be to invite the non-members to ride with us and show them how we ride and let them know a little about our chapter. So if you have friends that ride invite them to come along, it doesn't matter what they ride just that they ride safe and can enjoy a family orientated organization. Your chapter is still looking for some help. We are in need of a Dinner Ride coordinator. If you are interested in this position please let us know. One of the staff members would like to talk to you about the positions. Remember to bring your suggestions for things to do this year. Your staff would really like to plan the events you would like to attend. If you want a picnic let us know. Do you want more rides and what day and time works best for you?
January 2018 Wa ri o to Wi n g s Volume 3 Issue 1 Its time to start visiting other chapters If you looked at the calendar in this news letter you can see lots of opportunities to go visit other chapters. Jan and I love to go visit and we would like to have some of the chapter come with us. So to that end I have included our tentative visitation ride schedule in the calendar. These are the dates we are going to other chapters. If anyone would like to come with us please call or text or e-mail me and let us know. That way we can set up a ride that will fit your schedule and get us to the chapters on time. If you want to visit a chapter and it is not on our list let us know and we will try to make it work. We travel by car until the weather is good enough to ride then we ride as much as we can. We will also chase the plaques as much as we can so try to plan some rides to help out with that. When we go after the Couple of the Year Plaque it only requires Jan and I and it is given by ticket draw. When we go for the Middle and West TN Plaque it is done the same way there is no minimum number of people from our chapter required and they do a ticket draw. When we go after the TN Traveling Plaque or the Region Wanderer Plaque you must have five members attending and this is given to the highest miles traveled to the Gathering. The miles used are the total miles of all the members that attend the gathering, also if you ride your Motorcycle you get double miles for that rider and co-rider. If you have any questions about the rules please go to the district web site (www.gwrratn.org) and check them out. Let s Go Visiting!
