C- HISTORY USS LOS WGELES (SSN688) 1 JANUARY 1984 TO 31 DECEMBER 1980-1NG OFFICER CAPT R Eo BEEDLE, USN 21 October 1977 - Present COMMAND Type C-ander t Squadron Commandert Commander Submarine Force, US Pacific Fleet Commander Submarine Squadron SEVEN EOMEPORT Pearl Harbor, Hawaii BASIC HISTORY On 5 January, while at sea for post-upkeep sea trials, USS LOS ANGELES (SSN688) received notification that she would make an unscheduled deployment to the Western Pacific on 11 January This was the first short notice deployment of a submarine under the "Ready SSNw concept Following a high speed transit to the Indian Ocean, USS LOS ANGELES operated in support of Commander Task Group SEVEN ZERO PT TWO and on independent submarine operations On 25 March, USS LOS ANGELES moored alongside USS DIXIE (AD-14) in Diego Garcia, BIOT to reple- nish provisions and receive repair parts On 1 April, USS LOS ANGELES moored at HMAS Stirling, Perth, Western Australia for a six day port visit While in Perth, the ship was visited by Commodore R, Percy, Naval Officer Commanding Western Australia; Miss Martha Carbone, US Consul; the Honorable Sir Charles Court, Premier of Western Australia and Mr J P McKenzie, the Mayor of Frernantle Upon completion of the port visit to Perth, USS LOS ANGELES tran- sited to Guam for an Operational Reactor Safeguards Examination Following a brief stop in Guam, the ship returned to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Arriving on 25
