LAKE GREELEY CAMP Staff Information Packet Contents included in this packet: Introduction Background Information Location Philosophy What We Are Looking For Staff Statistics Dates Salary and Benefits Prerequisites Time Off Living Quarters Travel and Bonuses Program/Activities Daily Schedule Quote about camp from staff member. Introduction Working at Lake Greeley Camp will change your life. At camp, you are more than just a staff member; you are a brother, sister, mother, father, best friend, teacher, referee, mentor, and all around role model for our campers. This is not a job that just anyone can walk into and succeed in; it takes a special kind of person. If you are looking for just another summer job, then being a summer camp counselor is not the job for you. If you want to make a positive influence in the lives of children, teach an activity that you love, improve your own leadership skills, and overall make friendships and memories that you will never forget, then this is definitely the job for you. Being a summer camp staff member is a difficult job. It is also one of the most rewarding jobs in the market, which will give out 100% of what you put in to it. We are responsible for our campers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for 54 consequent days. If you come to camp for the right reasons, this will be the most memorable experience of your life. You will develop a life-altering bond with your co-counselors and campers that will no doubt leave you a better person. Background Information Lake Greeley Camp is a private, residential, overnight summer camp that has been owned and operated by the Buynak family for over 50 years. Founded in 1957, Lake Greeley Camp is the home to 300+ campers and 125 staff members during the summer months. Our campers range in age from 6 15, with several 16 and 17 year old campers continuing on in our Leader in Training (LIT) program. While the majority of our campers hail from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, we do boast a large nationwide and international camper presence. Last year alone, we had campers attend Lake Greeley Camp from: Austria, Canada, England, France, Haiti, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Tanzania, and Ukraine. Location Lake Greeley Camp is situated on 250 acres of beautiful Pennsylvania forest, located at the foothills of the Pocono Mountains. We are approximately 40 miles from Scranton, PA, 90 miles from New York City, NY, and just over 2 ½ hours to Philadelphia, PA. For our international staff, we do coordinated pick-ups in New York City and Newark Liberty International Airport. The camp also does staff pick-ups at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and Lords Valley, PA bus stop.

Philosophy The philosophy of Lake Greeley Camp can be summarized by this phrase: a summer camp experience lasts a lifetime. Lake Greeley Camp s objective is to bring children together into a healthy camp environment where they will be given the opportunity to develop artistically, athletically, and socially, along with being taught the importance of friendship, independence, and cooperation with others. Furthermore, for the entire Lake Greeley family, Lake Greeley Camp s experience is all about fun! What We Are Looking For We are dedicated to giving our campers the opportunities to experience new activities, gain independence, learn to live with others, appreciate nature, and come home with lifelong friendships. After a summer at Lake Greeley, children come home happy, poised, and confident with experiences and memories that will positively impact their lives. Because of this commitment that we ensure to our campers and parents, we are very selective about the staff that we comprise year in and year out. There is not a special formula on what make s a great staff member, so we try to identify the traits that we believe will best exemplify our philosophy. Here are a few qualities and characteristics that we look for in our staff members: Demonstrate a passion and genuine desire to work with children High-energy, outgoing, enthusiastic team players Place the needs of our campers above their own Show patience and ability to listen and understand our campers Counselors should be able to instruct one or more activities at a high level Staff should be comfortable living away from home for an extended period of time Lake Greeley Camp is a 100% tobacco-free environment We seek staff who are willing to set a positive example to our campers Staff Statistics Each year, Lake Greeley Camp comprises a staff of college students and adults come from not just all across America, but around the world. Although the camp is based in Pennsylvania, the majority of our American staff comes from out of state. 2010 64% USA (80% out of state) 18% United Kingdom 5% Hungary 3% Ukraine 2% Ireland 2% Slovakia 2% South Africa 1% Australia 1% Canada 1% Russia 1% Venezuela 2009 65% USA (74% out of state) 20% United Kingdom 7% Hungary 3% Australia 2% Ireland 1% Canada 1% Czech Republic 1% South Africa 2008 65% USA (81% out of state) 17% United Kingdom 6% Hungary 3% Australia 3% Russia 2% Netherlands 1% Canada 1% Czech Republic 1% Ireland 1% South Africa We hire the best staff based on instructor ability, experience, and character, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or nationality.
