EAST AYTON PC - 110515 Cllr Jefels Unfortunately I am unlikely to be able to atend your meetng on Tuesday because it clashes not only with Seamer PC and West Ayton PC's re-arranged date but also with the Annual Assembly at Snainton where there are several issues likely to be raised and where I need to be present. However just to update you on one or two maters.. BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTIONS By now you will no doubt be aware that Heather and I retained our seats and the Council now has a majority Conservatve Group with 26 out of 50 seats. However, it is generally felt that the stringent cuts in public spending is likely to contnue top afect local government so we can expect some long meetngs and much work in our endeavours to provide the best possible services to the public. On the positve side, the Council should be able to bring several projects to fruiton - the University of Coventry campus scheme, the Sports and Leisure Village, The Sands, wind farm of the Dogger Bank, the potash mine proposal, the restoraton of the Whitby piers - to name a handful. The creaton of new employment and more investment in the business parks at Scarborough and Whitby is seen as a priority. We have many new members in all the main group's on the council so doubtless we shall have new ideas coming forward. You can rely on Heather and myself to play an actve part in helping to further the economy and well being of the Borough, despite the contnuing fnancial restraints and we look forward to working with the Parish Council. AYTON CASTLE Work is contnuing to access grant funding towards the restoraton of the ruins. WILSON'S LANE FLOODING Members of the PC may be aware that the extremely heavy ran and hail storm on Sunday night May 3, caused fooding in Wilson's Lane and I immediately took the mater up with NYCC Highways. A copy of their reply was sent to Dawn who I expect will have disseminated the informaton to Members. If the PC is able to help, as suggested by David Creek, it would be appreciated. AYTON YOUTH CLUB All the signs are that the Youth Club is to contnue thanks to a team of enthusiastc volunteers and the young people themselves. A cofee morning has been arranged for Saturday June 6 at 10 am in the Village Hall and support from PC members would be appreciated to help raise some inital funding. RACECOURSE ROAD DEVELOPMENT I have had approaches from neighbours afected by the proposed housing scheme which will link Beton Rise and Racecourse Road. There are real concerns about the number of propertes proposed to be built and their height.i have writen to the planning department expressing their
concerns which I share. The plan is due to go before the Planning and Development Commitee on May 28. DERWENT VALLEY CHILDREN'S CENTRE The future use of the centre which adjoins East Ayton CP School is due to go out to public consultaton n the next few months and the parish council will naturally be one of those organisatons to be consulted. PLANNING ISSUE I have discussed the mater of the use of the building, as raised at last month's meetng, with Hilary Saunders at the Natonal Park ofce, who appreciates the points made in relaton to the use of the building and acton is being taken as a result of the complaints. If any PC member or the public who may be present raises any issue which needs atenton please let me know. DAVID JEFFELS
