Festive decorations and lights were put up in early December kicking off the holiday season! Mele Kalikimaka! 3
The new LED light has arrived from Read Lighting; this light has been installed to take the place of the old style halogen light. Below is a photo of the old style and the new style, the new LED light will save on electricity, so much so that it will pay for itself in electricity savings in about 6 years, the new light has a life expectancy of 20 years, and is guaranteed for 5 years. Old Light New LED The installation took place on 11-28-12. This will be a test to see how bright this type of light is, and how large of an area this fixture will cover. The task of monitoring pool temperature has begun, with the addition of a dry erase board at the pool. This board has been installed in an area in which all can view the temperatures that are being recorded at 9:00am and 3:00pm. These temperatures are also being recorded on the daily pool attendant paper work and the daily pass down log book. 4
The elevators are in need of touch-up due to constant use of carts and guests baggage. They have bumped or dinged the wood inside the cabs, the ceilings of the cabs are also in need of repainting. The signs at the tennis courts were in need of replacement, the old signs were sun damaged and falling apart. The new signs are made of a material that is resistant to sun damage and will last for many years. New signage will be replacing old broken and damaged signs throughout the property. Great Holiday Gifts Just a reminder... Kamaole Sands has several logo items now available in different colors/styles in our lobby/reception area including caps, visors, beach towels, water bottles, and luggage tags. Last year we sold out of the turtle and dolphin logo beach towels at the Annual Meeting but we now have plenty in stock for our owners and guests. Our newest item is a re-usable shopping bag (only $5) that also can double as a great beach bag! It complements our beautiful dolphin beach towel! Although it does not have the Kamaole Sands logo, it works great as a reusable shopping bag which is useful since Maui has banned plastic bags. It works perfect as it is large, sturdy, and features long as well as short handles. Also, it is great for gifts for our long term winter guests. They will appreciate the bag with some coordinating beach towels or other logo items. The stairwell painting project has begun. Many of the stairwell walls throughout the property showed signs of peeling paint. 6

Understanding Bed Bugs Key AOAO staff, Castle, and ORC Chairperson, Craig Chandler, met with Mark Redeker of Mid Pacific Pest Control to help everyone understand the treatment process for bed bugs. Winds on 11/26 blew the Harpullia tree down in front of building 3. Investigation revealed major deterioration at the tree s base. The AOAO will be working with the landscape committee, Island Plant Company, and an Arborist to determine if any other trees pose a similar problem. 8

Several bids were received for the repair of the dry stand pipes at buildings 6 & 8. The board plans to review the proposals in December and select a contractor to complete the repairs. Temporary wooden boxes were built to protect the plumbing work until repairs are ready. Final approval on engineering plans for 10 Double Detector Check Assemblies (DCDA) are still pending the County s stamp of approval. We are on standby until this process is completed. Several contractors have already submitted preliminary installation proposals. Contractors will be given an an opportunity to update their proposals when the County approves the final plans. In November, the Pipe Committee consulted with a company called Nu Flow to investigate ways to extend the life of our plumbing system. The company spent two days investigating various plumbing concerns then met with the board of directors during the executive session at November s Board meeting to discuss various options. The information gained is valuable as we move forward in dealing with an aging plumbing system. 11
