PRESIDENT S CORNER By Armand Boyd I hope every one had a good and joyful holiday. As we start a new year we are going to also start a new process regarding quarterly dues. Our accounting company has switched banks. The new bank will give all residents more options when it comes to paying their dues. There will be an online method of paying and a credit card option as well. I will let everyone know that credit card payments incur a $10 service fee each time you pay by credit card. The online option will be available for no charge though. Hopefully having a few more payment options will make things easier for everyone. As we move into the heart of winter I would like to remind everyone to please keep your sidewalks clear if we get snow. Also keep in mind that our snow removal contract is an on call service. This means we sometimes have to be a little patient when it comes to having our streets cleared. I know this is not a preferred way to have snow removed but in the long run, it does save the neighborhood money. As we begin the new year the board has a lot of work ahead. As winter moves on we will be planning some of our larger projects. Replacing some of our streets in the spring will take a lot of planning and organizing now. By the time winter breaks and spring begins we will have all of the planning completed and move into getting things done. One of the items already taken care of for summer is a new pool contractor. After several complaints from residents and issues noticed by the board we voted on and accepted a new pool contractor. The new contractor comes with good references and will make our pool a safer and more enjoyable place to relax. Continued on Page 3 1

From President s Corner on page 1 I will wrap this up as I always do by asking for volunteers. The neighborhood still has committees in need of staffing. If you can t obligate time on a regular basis then do as much as you can. If nothing else please just pick up those one or two pieces of trash you see on the ground while walking to the mail box. If everyone just chips in a little then together we can make a real difference. Please volunteer. NEWINGTON COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS PROPOSED MEETING MINUTES December 5, 2007 NCA Meeting Room Pool House President Armand Boyd, Vice President Al Roy, and Director Kimberly Nagel were in attendance. Treasurer Dave Rundgren, Director John Nolan, Secretary Chip Catherine, and Director Neil Oxendine were unable to attend. The Board Meeting did not occur due to a lack of quorum. NCA s Financial Manager, Brenda Conway, had been asked to attend the Board meeting to discuss the 2008 costs of services for Summit Management. Vice President Roy summarized the Board s concerns that NCA was being required to go to coupons. She explained that NCA could continue with the quarterly invoicing process. She reviewed with the Board members the benefits of switching to a coupon system. She also mentioned that the more people who sign up for direct debit, the more money the community saves because they would not need coupons or invoices. Vice President Roy also asked that in the future, NCA be given more notice of any increases since these numbers were provided after the NCA budget had already been finalized. While Brenda was there, the subject also came up regarding waiving balances of $15 of less at the end of the year to clean up the books. There is no negative effect to leaving these balances on the books. NCA has paid to have delinquency letters sent to these residents. The Board will vote on this subject at a different time. The Community Manager provided those in attendance information on Christmas tree pick up. Christmas trees are considered yard debris by the County and can fine haulers that dispose of them as trash. NCA can hire a private hauler to come through the community at a cost between $95 and $350 depending on how much is picked up. The Board will vote on this subject at a different time. Although no one came to the meeting for a hearing, those residents that were scheduled for December 5 th, will be sent a letter giving them another opportunity on January 2 nd when there is a majority of the Board. Towing is enforced on NCA Private Streets Never park on a yellow curb or double park. Commercial vehicles are prohibited. Vehicles must be in running condition and display current safety inspections and registrations. 3

The annual Holiday Party was again a very enjoyable, entertaining evening. It wouldn t have been as successful without the volunteers who stepped up including the Oxendine Family, Karyn Schneider, Mary Flythe, Bud Tyler, the Royal Family, Liz Carroll, John Nolan and Isabelle Spinelli. Thank you all for your assistance and to everyone who stayed to help with clean up. Pictures were taken with Santa and if anyone didn t receive theirs by the end of the party, please call the NCA office. We still have copies and can email them to you also. All NCA recreation events are free and we hope to see more residents enjoy future activities. It is a great time to mingle with your NCA neighbors. See you this Spring at the EGG HUNT! 4

LIVE CHRISTMAS TREE PICK UP Our trash contractor will NOT be picking up live trees in the townhome section of the community. Please do NOT put them out with trash. NCA has made arrangements for a private hauler to come through the townhomes in the afternoons of Friday, January 4th and Monday, January 7th for live Christmas tree pick up. If trees are not put out on these dates, disposal is the responsibility of the resident. Live tree pick up in the single family section will occur on Wednesday s with their regularly scheduled yard debris pick up. Notices RECYCLING.
