France Coastal Corsica Hiking Tour 2019 Individual Self-Guided 8 days/7 nights The sun sparkles over the deep blue sea and allows the cliffs to gleam in soft pink. In the back the high peaks of Corsica rise majestically. Few countries offer views as fascinating as the coastal landscape of the Gulf of Porto. Your daily walks take you past precipitous cliffs, to dreamy coastal towns and lonely sandy beaches. Also the hinterland of this region will fascinate you. While you explore the peaceful pine forests and craggy gorges on small rarely used hiking trails you are accompanied by a fantastic panorama of the rugged coastline offers. Hiking in Corsica is truly a feast for your senses!
Day 1: Arrival in Porto Ota Itinerary Day 4: Porto Ota Piana 11 km + 515 m - 525 m You start todays hike just outside Porto Ota and hike through the pine forests of Piana. The path takes you along hillsides. After that it leads you on rocky roads downhill into a gentle valley. You will pass a picnic area, and ultimately reach the small town of Piana, one of the most beautiful villages of France. Day 5: Round trip Piana 14 km + 900 m - 900 m You leave Piana and walk up to Piazza Moninca. Experienced hikers may climb Capu d'orto on the way and enjoy beautiful views of the Corsica s hinterland. After the descent from this peak, idyllic trails lead your way back to Piana. Day 6: Piana Cargèse 17 km + 430 m - 350 m Your day starts with a transfer to the Gulf of Topiti. You walk past the Punta di Orchinu and from there further on to the beach of Chiuni. Your coastal walk leads you then to the Gulf of Peru. Today small beach villages alternate with wonderful lookouts on rocky cliffs. Once you pass the ruins of several Genovese towers until you eventually reach the charming port city of Cargèse. Day 2: Round trip Girolata 9 km + 530 m - 530 m Transfer to Col de la Croix. From here you follow an old postal trail down to the well-known village of Girolata. The red cliffs of nature reserve Scandola will guide you and make a lovely setting for today s walk. On your way back you follow one of Corsica s most famous trails: the long distance path Tra Mare et Monti. In the afternoon transfer back to Porto. Day 3: Round trip Capu San Petru 9 km + 700 m 1,035 m In the morning you have a transfer into the small village of Ota. From here, you follow narrow paths on the Mare et Monti through a small gorge until you reach the ridge Capu San Petru. From here you have a fantastic view on the Gulf of Porto. A steep descent brings you back to the small coastal town of Porto Ota.
Day 7: Round trip Cargèse 16 km + 550 m - 550 m You leave this small city and walk towards Punta di Cargèse. After wandering out to this cape you walk through the harbor and up onto the nearby hillside of Ravin de Sola. From here you continue on rocky coastal paths back to the beach. From here it is only a stone's throw back to Cargèse. Day 8: Individual departure or prolongation
Route Technical Characteristics Tour Profile: Average. The coasts of Corsica are rocky and can be slippery, especially in wet conditions. Surefootedness and a good physical condition are therefore necessary for these walks. Some short stages are exposed. For these sections, you should be free from fear of heights.
