MIKSER HOUSE Concept of the Third place Third places are important for civil society, democracy, civic engagement, creative interaction and establishing feelings of a sense of place. The Great Good Place, Ray Oldenburg (1989, 1991). The third place is a term used in the concept of community building to refer to social surroundings inbetween the two usual social environments of home (the first place we live in) and the workplace (the second place, we spend most of the time at). Third places are "anchors" of community life and facilitate more creative interaction. All societies already have informal meeting places;what is new in modern times is the intentionality of seeking them out as vital to current societal needs. MIKSER HOUSE From local to global Mikser House is a hybrid concept space for cultural, educational and commercial activities, nested in an inspiring converted industrial facility of 1000 m2. Located in Savamala, one of the most promising Belgrade neighborhoods, Mikser House is contributing to its bottom-up transformation into a progressive design & culture district with international visibility. Owing to synergy with culture organisation Mikser and its regional design network, Mikser House will serve as the Regional creative center for promotion retail of the best Balkan products: from furniture and fashion, to vine, spirits and gourmet delicacies.
