Memories In The Making... As our grand Coliseum is undergoing a complete renovation, you can experience history in the making with a tour through the building during the State Fair. Built in 1939, the Coliseum is receiving a $63 million renovation which will completely restore the iconic exterior and create an all new interior with seating up to 8,200. The Coliseum will be complete by August 1, 2014 right in time for our 2014 Indiana State Fair! During the 2013 Indiana State Fair, our visitors will be able to walk through the construction site and learn more about the unique architecture of this beloved Indiana structure. Tours Daily 10 am - 6 pm presented by Indiana State Fair Foundation New Livestock Showcase... The Indiana State Fair Commission invites everyone to the new Youth Arena, currently under construction and ready to open on August 2, 2013 for opening day! With the Coliseum closed during renovation, the Outdoor Practice Arena located to the south of the Coliseum was demolished so a new Youth Arena could be constructed as a secondary arena both during the Indiana State Fair and year-round events. Completion is scheduled for July 2013 just in time for livestock shows for the State Fair. The enclosed 32,000 sq ft facility, adjacent to the South Pavilion will house the vast majority of the 2013 livestock events during the Indiana State Fair. Food and fun... dupont food pavilion There s fun at every turn during the Indiana State Fair. Located in the heart of the Fairgrounds, the DuPont Food Pavilion is near the center of it all. Food is the top reason visitors attend the State Fair and it s the star of the Du- Pont Food Pavilion. The building is dedicated entirely to Indiana food, the farmers who grow it, the chefs who prepare it, the artisans who craft it and the issues connected to it. Here are a few of the ways that visitors can enjoy the DuPont Food Pavilion: Relax and watch one of nine daily demonstrations on the Red Gold Culinary Corner. Topics range from filleting a fish to making gourmet chocolate. Sample and buy local foods. Savor bourbon maple syrup, elephant ear flavored marshmallows or artisanal cheese, among other products. Marvel at the cheese sculpture. An annual highlight is seeing what masterpiece can be carved from cheese. Explore healthy food choices. Purdue University s MyPlate & Beyond is a kidfriendly, interactive display offering advice on nutrition. From sea salt caramels to chipotle catsup and local chefs to culinary trendsetters, there s a lot to like about the DuPont Food Pavilion. Stop by to have some food and fun. Entertainment, Exhibits & Special Features The State Fair is filled with entertainment it s everywhere! The daily schedules in this program list everything going on each day, and we ve highlighted some of them here. Enjoy! World s Largest Popcorn Ball pres. by Indiana s Family of Farmers While popcorn has become an anytime snack, popcorn balls are known more as a special snack often created for special occasions. With help from our friends at Weaver Popcorn, the fair has made the World s Largest Popcorn Ball! This 5,200 pound spectacle will be unveiled Aug. 3 in the Ball State Ag/Hort Building and be on display throughout the remainder of the fair. The Glass Barn: A Clear Look at the Farming Experience The Indiana Soybean Alliance has designed and built a new barn on the fairgrounds north side, but this isn t your typical Indiana barn. This 4,500 square foot glass-paneled barn is filled with interactive games and activities designed to show you how farming works and how food is produced. The $2 million facility will include satellite communications with working farms and will also be used year-round for the fairgrounds State s Largest Classroom education program. Kiddie Land Midway The State Fair Midway is always abuzz with lights, screams and laughter. Now, a new midway for the little tykes has been created on the fairgrounds east side that will offer families with young children their own special area to make some great State Fair memories. The new Kiddie Land Midway is located just inside Gate 6 off Fall Creek Parkway and offers more than a dozen different rides for small children. Get Animated Get Animated is an 8,000 square foot exhibit that explores the fascinating world of animation. This interactive experience takes visitors back to the classics of traditional hand drawn celluloid animation and highlights current day computer animation, including well known stories and characters from Walt Disney, DreamWorks and Sony Animation. A large-scale custom 3-D Zoetrope a device that produces the illusion of motion from a rapid succession of static pictures is the centerpiece of the exhibit, which is open every day of the fair inside the Grand Hall on Main Street. Rosstyn Ice Shows An outdoor ice show in August? Yes! Rosstyn Ice Shows, which has been touring the world for nearly 20 years presenting a variety of action-packed, family-fun shows, will have three to four daily performances during the fair. Each performance takes place on a 40-by-40 skating rink in Dow AgroSciences Celebration Park on the fairgrounds northwest side. The rink is covered by a clear-span, engineered tent with bleacher seating for up to 800 spectators. Sinbad High Dive Show Family fun reaches its peak, literally, at the Sinbad High Dive show as Sinbad and his band of gold seekers search for the fabled Golden Apple. The adventure includes lots of laughs and, ultimately, a plunge into the ocean from 80 feet in the air. This slapstick group has three or four shows each day of the fair in the Family Fun Park. Great American Frontier Show Buffalo, horses, oxen and wolves are all part of this family-friendly celebration of life in the Old West. Visitors will see how our ancestors built the West with only animals for transport and crop raising. There s also trick riding on horseback and wolves that perform on command. Cowboys in character, western music and storytelling around the campfire round out this western experience that has up to four shows daily in the Family Fun Park. Indiana State Fair Vocal Throwdown The Indiana State Fair is holding its firstever open singing competition complete with cash prizes and an opportunity to perform at the fair. All entries were submitted on video and the public voted on the five singers in two different divisions performing at the fair. The preliminary round will be on the Main Street Stage Saturday, Aug. 3, with the finalists vying for top honors Saturday, Aug. 10. Subaru presents The A-maize-ing Popcorn Adventure Maybe you ve been through a corn maze before, but probably not a popcorn maze. Now is your chance! Wind your way through the fun popcorn maze located immediately east of the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand.
