July 9, Sunday Caver s Hill Hike Intermediate 6 km / 4 hr 300 km/ 3 hr $15 9:00 am North Site The trailhead begins high above Lake Superior. We will follow a well-marked trail to Cathy Lake. From here we will continue past 2 lakes, and to a spectacular lookout. Bring camera, lunch and lots to drink. We will stop for refreshments in Nipigon afterwards for those who have time. July 11, Tuesday Evening Bike Intermediate/Difficult 35 km / 2-3 hr n/a n/a 6:00 pm Neebing Roadhouse Hwy 61 Starting at the Neebing Roadhouse parking lot, we will bike down some country roads, (including some steep hills.) Weather permitting. We will stop in at the Neebing for a refreshment afterwards. July 13, Thursday Intro to Kayaking Easy 3 5 km/2 hr n/a n/a 6:30 pm Beach off Lyon Blvd at end of Rita Street This will be an introduction to kayaking with Wilderness Supply, who will be providing kayaks and equipment for up to 12 participants. Cherie must be contacted to reserve a spot/kayak by Thursday, July 6 th. This is a great opportunity to try out kayaking on Boulevard Lake with experienced kayakers. Any member who has a kayak and their own equipment is welcome to join us. Please wear waterproof shoes/sandals and bring rain gear. You will likely get wet, so bring a change of clothes, a snack and water. July 15, Saturday Thunder Bay Spacing Trials Tree Farm Easy 5 km /1 hr 20 km / 30 min $2 10:00 am South Site We will take a leisurely hike around the tree farm trails and lake. Refreshments at Karina s after hike for those interested. Bring a chair, drink, and snacks to enjoy. This is a dog friendly hike. July 16, Sunday Mary Louise Lake Paddle Intermediate 10 km /3 hr 150 km / 2 hr $8 9:30 am North Site Enjoy this relaxed pace paddle in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Bring PFD, sunscreen, hat, lunch, swimsuit and water. Provincial park day permit $14 ($11 for seniors).

July 20, Thursday Silver Falls Voyager Trails Easy/Intermediate 8 km /3 hr 90 km / 2 hr $5 10:30 am North Site Starting at the parking lot at the generating station, we go up a long uphill portage to Big Dog Lake and come back down to Little Dog Lake on another portage. See the two-headed dog effigy. Nice views along the way. Bring lunch, water, and dress for the weather. July 22, Saturday Tarmola Cliffs Difficult 10 km /4 hr 40 km / 1.5 hr $2 10:00 am North Site Scramble/climb to the top of Tarmola Cliffs overlooking Current River Valley. Then a gentle hike to Bently Marsh, or a steep hike to Golding Lake. Option to swim/sauna at Teuvo s cabin after the hike. Bring a beverage. This is a dog friendly hike. July 23, Sunday Mills Block Easy/intermediate 5 km / 1 hr $2 10:30 am North Site Hike along an old logging road past a beaver dam, then up a hill to loop around and back down. Bring snacks and plenty of fluids. This is a dog friendly hike. July 27, Thursday Silver Harbour Hike Intermediate 5 km /3 hr 30 km / 45 min $2 6:30 pm North Site (or meet us at Silver Harbour at 6:50 pm) An evening walk along the Lake Superior bluffs at Silver Harbour, across the road and then along the inland bluffs to the north of Camp Road. (We have to cross a swampy area.) Possibility of refreshments afterwards. This is a dog friendly hike.

July 30, Sunday Thunder Bay Lookout to Clavet Bay Intermediate 7 km /3 hr 140 km / 2 hr $7 9:00 am North Site Starting from Sleeping Giant Thunder Bay Lookout, we will hike down a long steep hill to a fairly flat section. From there we will make our way to Clavet Bay's bare rock shore. After lunch and maybe a quick dip, we will return the same way. Save some energy for the final ascent back up to Thunder Bay Lookout. Boots with a good grip are recommended for climbing over boulders and loose rock. Vehicle day permit $14 ($11 for seniors) August 3, Thursday 6:30 pm North Site (or meet us at Hazelwood Conservation parking lot at 7:00 pm) Hazelwood Evening Hike (west point trail, upper bush trail and dam trail) Easy 8 km /2 hr 50 km / 45 min $3 A relaxing walk along the three trails at Hazelwood. Bring your shorts or bathing suit for a cool down at the beach. (Don t forget the $2 vehicle fee.) This is a dog friendly hike. August 13, Sunday Lyda Bay Section (Casque Isles Trail) Intermediate/difficult 8 km / 4 hr 430 km / 4.5 hr $22 9:00 am North Site This seldom hiked last section of the Casque Isles Trail starts at Hydro Bay, features a series of sandy beaches on Lake Superior, and will end at Terrace Bay beach. Optional camping Saturday night at Rainbow Falls. Individuals would be responsible for making their own camping arrangements. August 20, Sunday Silver Islet & Pizza Party Easy/Intermediate 14 km /3.5 hr 160 km / 2 hr $8 10:00 am North Site We will hike to Tee Harbour and return to Dale & Peggy s camp on Surprise Lake at Silver Islet. Afterwards, join us for a pizza party, sauna and swim. BRING A PIZZA TOPPING (pizza dough provided) & beverage.

August 23, Wednesday Urban Hike Easy 5 km / 1.5 hr n/a n/a 6:30 pm - Meet in parking lot at far end of the Marina by the Yacht Club We will walk around the Marina and up McVickers Creek and back to the parking lot. Option to stop in for a beverage along the way or at the end of the walk, depending on consensus of the group. This is a dog friendly hike. August 26, Saturday Middle Falls to Lookout Hike (Canada) Intermediate 6 km /2.5 hr 100 km / 2 hr $5 12:00 noon South Site We will meet Path of the Paddle/Trans Canada Trail participants at Middle Falls. This is the grand opening of this section of the 25,000 km Trans Canada Trail. Ed Shields will lead hikers up to lookouts along this section of the Trans Canada Trail. This hike will be followed by a bbq at a different location (to be announced) (apx 4:00 pm). Food & beverages will be provided. August 27, Sunday Little Falls Hike (Kakabeka Falls Prov. Park) Easy/Intermediate 5-8 km /2 hr 60 km / 1 hr $3 10:00 am South Site We will hike the portage Creek and Mountain Portage Trails to Little Falls in Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park. There will be a steep climb at the end of this hike. For a complete description, see pg 34 of out 2013 Edition Trail Guide. Bring a snack and plenty of fluids. We can enjoy ice cream in the village of Kakabeka Falls after the hike. September 3, Sunday Welch Mountain Hike Intermediate 8 km / 4 hr 120 km / 2 hr $6 10:00 am North Site One of our favourites, this trail is relatively close to town and offers many levels of hiking experience. We will hike to the "George Rhine Lookout" then continue past the North Lookout and to adjacent lookouts. Bring a lunch and plenty of fluids. This is a dog friendly hike.

September 9, Saturday Head of the Giant, Sleeping Giant Prov l Park Very Difficult 18 km / 6 hr 150 km / 2.5 hr $8 9:00 am North Site Experience one of the most spectacular views of Lake Superior and the Sleeping Giant. Wear sturdy footwear for this rugged trail, which has numerous steep climbs. Bring a lunch and plenty of fluids. Vehicle day permit $14 ($11 for seniors). September 16, Saturday Devil s Kettle, Judge Magney State Park, USA Intermediate 7 km /2.5 hr 200 km / 3 hr $10 10:00 am South Site In Judge Magney State Park, we will walk uphill to a long set of descending stairs leading to the Devil s Kettle viewing platforms. The trail then meanders along the river bank until we reach a lunch spot. Return along the same trail. Passports required. No fruit. Out of country insurance recommended. Sturdy footwear and hiking poles recommended. Bring a lunch, lots of snacks and plenty of fluids. September 17, Sunday Kabeyun Trail Bike & Hike Very difficult 25 km /6 hr 150 km / 2 hr $8 9:00 am North Site This is a hike/bike for experienced hikers with a good fitness level. From the Kabeyun trail parking lot we will bike to Lehtinen s Bay and continue on foot over the Talus and the Feet to side of the Giant facing Thunder Bay. Bring lots of fluids, snacks, sturdy footwear and bug spray. Vehicle day permit $14 ($11 for seniors). September 19, Tuesday ***** TBHA Annual General Meeting ***** 6:30 pm Symposium 7:00 pm Meeting Westminster Church Join us for our 34 th AGM. We will start the evening with a meet and greet at 6:30 pm, with the business portion starting at 7:00 pm. Following election of next year s executive, we will have a guest speaker. The AGM will take place in Westminster United Church on River Street across from Grandview Mall. Mark the date on your calendar.

September 21, Thursday Mount Rose Evening Hike Intermediate 8 km /2-3 hr 30 km / 40 min $2 5:30 pm South Site An evening hike around the top of Mount Rose with nice views of Thunder Bay and Lake Superior. We will stop for a supper break at the first lookout. (One bad steep climb to get up to Mount Rose.) Possibility of refreshments afterwards. This is a dog friendly hike. September 23, Saturday Downy Lake Loop Intermediate 7-8 km / 2-3 hr 120 km / 2 hr $6 10:00 am South Site Hike from Silver Mountain Station down Devon Road to trailhead. From the trailhead, we will hike the Downy Lake Loop. Bring beverages and snacks. September 24, Sunday Dorion Tower Lookout and the Pinnacles Easy/Intermediate 7-10 km / 3-4 hr 160 km / 2 hr $8 10:00 am North Site After driving to the Dorion Tower road, we will park our cars and walk along a 4x4 road to the tower. Then to a bush trail over to a panoramic view of Dorion area, Lake Superior and the Pinnacles for a lunch break. If the weather conditions permit, we ll scramble down a rocky trail over to the base of the pinnacles rock towers. (Possibility of refreshments on the way home.) This is a dog friendly hike. September 28, Thursday NorWesters Lost & McLaurin Mt. Difficult 12 km /4.5 hr 20 km / 30 min $2 10:00 am South Site The hike starts and ends from the end of Coppin Rd. We ll follow the main trail to McLaurin s Mt. From various lookouts you will see Loch Lomond and Lake Superior in the distance. We ll return the same trail until the fork to Lost Mt. The lookouts from Lost Mt overlook the city and the Kam valley. Total elevation difference to be hiked is about 450 metres. Bring poles, water and lunch.
