Minutes of previous meeting Condition of the Erewash Canal Towpath HS had asked if anything could be done about improving the towpath between Gadsby s bridge and Langley mill. has put this forward to the Enterprise team and they will attempt to gain funding for it. No progress as yet but NC NC

Page 2 of 5 offered to get a work party together if CRT could provide materials. NC to contact / DG if this is an option. Slowing cyclists on the Notts Beeston Towpath HS had asked if we could email him the ideas for sharing the towpath space from NTU. had tried to obtain this information but had not yet received it. has requested, in this coming years business plan, some funds to install measures to slow down cyclists on the Notts Beeston Canal. has not yet had confirmation but it should come any day now and works can then begin. Restructures outlined the changes to the organisation - essentially some of the technical aspects of the waterway will be moved into central teams allowing the waterway to focus on customer service. HS had asked for a family tree to be issued and this was issued at the meeting. said that Liz Fleuty had been recruited to the new post of Development & Engagement Manager would be starting 1 st April. Visitor Moorings informed the meeting that as part of a 1m spend on customer service improvements, 4 new visitor moorings had been created / extended on the Chesterfield Canal at Babworth, Ranby, Wooden Beck and the Gate Inn. Use of Rivers, JS and David Pullen had met to discuss ideas for encouraging more use of rivers. A survey and press release is to be issued shortly. Lincoln Visitor Moorings NJ had asked if anything could be done at the Visitor Moorings at Lincoln. had asked the moorings team to allow them to extend the visitor moorings and they had agreed. This work is to be started in April. Canoes, Rowers and Angling (Nottingham) reported that a meeting had been held with representatives of each group and all had agreed to tell their members to treat others users with respect. The events system had been explained to all attendees and can be used to warn others users. Grouting at Sandiacre A check had been done at the lock and although not perfect the leaks from the lock had much improved. Preventing canoes on the Trent Backwater JB had asked if a sign could be put up on top of Averham weir to deter canoeist from coming down the backwater and disturbing the fishing. had checked with his legal team but had concluded he was unable to erects such signs as CRT only look after the navigation above the weir rather than the watercourse below it. Strategic Plan still to send YS a copy in the post. Trees have been cut down opposite Sainsburys and a waterway structure has been exposed. has forwarded this information to the engineering team.

Page 3 of 5 Gunthorpe Slip DT asked if any more works were planned. said it was in the works plan for 15/16. Trent Lock HS reported that more rubbish was now collecting following alterations to the gates. It was confirmed at the meeting that this was rubbish in the lock caused by the boards installed to prevent hang ups. DG to check on site. DG Sainsbury s visitor moorings has checked the signage on site and it is correct and has informed enforcement of some possible cases in this area. Holme Lock Ground Paddles had asked why the ground paddles were sealed up but cannot find anyone who knows. They could theoretically be re-opened but it would cost a great deal for something that is probably a low priority. 2 National Update gave some details about the restructure that has recently taken place within CRT and, using a handout, described the changes to the waterway. explained that the new Customer Service Manager was doing a review of a number of aspects of moorings, but one change that had already been agreed was that the majority of visitor moorings would be available for 14 day mooring in winter. explained that a large amount of work had been carried out to trees in the East Midlands and in particular along the Erewash Canal (Gallows Inn / Greens Lock, Awsworth Rd, Cotmanhay & Eastwood areas); Aswell as tree works along the Notts-Beeston Canal, where unfortunately a number of neighbours along the canal were unhappy that the views had changed. A group of representatives from the angling community in the East Midlands had recently met to discuss those actions needed to improve angling and fisheries within the East Midlands. The output of that meeting will be a Fisheries and Angling Action Plan for the East Midlands. mentioned a towpath tidy that CRT were planning with the Long Eaton Civic Society on the 7 th June in the Long Eaton area. This was typical of the local relationships that CRT wanted to foster and he welcomed any other suggestions. 3 Works Update Erewash Canal Dockholme Lock Stoppage Top & Bottom Gates replaced, installation of new lock ladders, repointing of the lock chamber and numerous other minor defects across the lock structure. Stanton Lock Stoppage Ground paddle and gates repairs, along with lock approach wall repairs and a number of defects with the lock chamber. Winter Stoppages 2015 2016 Newark Town Lock November 2015 Barkers Lock Likely to be November 2015 Jan / Feb Stoppages 2016 TBC An open day is likely to be held at Newark Town Lock in November 2015, which should be quite a big affair. Date to be confirmed. 4 Items raised by Member RA asked about any progress on visitor moorings for the River Trent. responded that land ownership a limited and so they had to wait for third parties to work in partnership with them, but would be happy to listen to any reasonable proposals. JS referred to two trees needing cutting near Marton Mill tip. DG to investigate and raise job requests as required. DG HS mentioned the canal clean up organised by the in the Gallows Inn area on the 28 th / 29 th March. CG asked for the enforcement team to be made aware of a live-a-board in the Potters Lock area.

Page 5 of 5 MG asked for some details of the Erewash Dredging for an article he is writing. to ask Mark Weatherall to send on some details. CG asked if we could consider installing longbars to hold the gates at Sandicare Lock closed, similar to those at Fradley. to check, but it may not be straightforward from a heritage perspective.
