Pool Tourney Our annual pool tournament held on February 8th was another great success with 15 players and two people cheering everyone on. We tried a new venue this year and it was a hit with everyone. Shooters Billiards was very clean and the owner was very accommodating. Everyone enjoyed the food and had a great time. It came down to Bill and Joe playing for the title and Joe was victorious. This was Joe's second win and he will join Phill with their names on our plaque twice each. I want to thank Dennie and Karen for all their help in running the table sheet and keeping everything organized for us. While Joe and Bill were playing their final game, Darrell let everyone know that he and Barb were playing a game and the winner would have to do the laundry. Needless to say Darrell lost and will be doing laundry this week. Mike Coulas Assistant Program Director and Public Relations Officer 647-391-9866

6 Bill & Linda Groen s Florida Trip Hello all in the frozen North. Since arriving in Naples Florida at the start of the new year. Linda and I have been doing a lot of riding. We are on the bike just about every day. The weather here is perfect for riding, lots of sun and usually in the mid 70 s. Our first ride took us thru the central part of lower Florida to the town of Clewiston on the southern part of Lake Okeechobee. The roads here are generally straight but the lack of traffic and 60 mph speed limits make it a fun ride. One interesting point during our ride back happened in the a small town of Immokalee which is mainly transient workers and local Indians, we passed a group of mainly young children and women standing outside of a run down building at about 3pm on a Friday and the sign on the building read Bail Bondsmen and we realized they were there to bail out their husbands or fathers. It almost felt like a third world scene. Usually 2 or 3 times a week we pack up the bike and ride to the nearby Delmar Wiggins Pass State park beach. Nice relaxing day and do some fishing or tanning, Always a place to park with the bike even if the lots are full. We ve done rides up to Sanibel Island and near the end of Jan we took a 3 day ride down to Key West. We had planned to leave about 8 but the rain kept us off the road till 10:30. From there till we reached Key Largo the clouds were threatening but we managed to keep dry. We stopped for lunch at the Fish House and by the time we finished the skies had cleared for the ride to Key West. Only one road in and one road out so there is lots of traffic but things moved along quite well. There was a steady 50 60 K wind and with the long bridges it made for a scenic but gusty ride. Lost the rain cover for our travel bag on the 7 mile bridge. We arrived late afternoon in Key West and had a great time the next two days enjoying the local bars and restaurants. Did all the local touristy stuff and got out on the water on a 105 foot schooner the America 2.0. The ride home {Naples} took us along route 41, the Tamiami Trail, which is known as Alligator Alley and for about 70 miles it s a ride with canals on either side of the road full of alligators. Locals that live here have to set up 6 ft. chain link fences around their property to keep out the alligators, I guess the kids around here don t wander far from home. There are a number off airboat companies around here which we plan to do some time soon. Earlier in the month we had gone to the Local Harley dealer and spoke with a couple of guys that were members of the Naples Paradise HOG chapter and they invited us out for a run. They generally ride Sat, Sun and Wed. Well shortly after coming back from Key West we hooked up with the local chapter and our first run was out to Lake Okeechobee, wouldn't you know it to the same town we had gone to earlier.

The route was a little different and there were about 15 bikes on the ride, great bunch of people that made us feel right at home. One of the local chapter members was having a pig roast and we were invited. Had a great time and meet a few more locals. There are a number of retired members and that's why they have a mid week ride. I hooked up again last Wed. for a ride up to Port Charlotte with about 22 bikes. These guys are really well organized with the 2 rides I ve been on so far. I plan on doing an Escort the Vietnam Wall ride next Wed. [on the I-75 with police escort] the local chapter will be doing the lead on this ride to Marco Island escorting the wall. Well I ve got some family down for the next 4 days so it looks like I won t be doing as much riding. Look forward to seeing everyone sometime mid March. Ride Safe Bill Groen Mackie BBQ s Activities I am planning to have 6 to 8 BBQ s over the course of June and July, approximately one per weekend. It s a great opportunity to raise funds for the Chapter. At our next General Meeting (March), I will be asking for volunteers to fill in these time slots (we need commitments). Brunch The Mandarin We are also planning for a club brunch at The Mandarin for the near future. We can confirm and lock down a date at the March meeting. If you are interested and can t make the meeting, please contact me, we will be needing a head count. Bowling I am in the process of contacting Mackie H-D and challenging them to a night of bowling. I should have information on Tuesday night to present. Hollywood Joe

Mackie H-D news 8 Below is a list of the upcoming events that we are holding: - Pipe Night and Chili Cook off: Thursday February 26 th 6:00 pm 8:00 pm (storewide savings, chili tasting, pipe demo) - New Rider Boot Camp: Saturday March 7 th 10:00 am 12:00 pm (informative seminars put on by our sales, parts, service and motorclothes teams) - Ladies Night: Thursday March 26 th 6:00 pm 8:00 pm (storewide savings, complimentary snacks & refreshments, informative seminars) Please rsvp to brooke.mackie@mackiegroup.com if attending. Thanks! Brooke Mackie H-H Chili and Pipe night I foolishly had dinner before I arrived so I had no room to taste the various pots of chili on hand. Judging by the delicious aromas and the line up for seconds, I m sure all were tasty and it would have been difficult to pick the winner. Listening to the various pipe sounds was music to my ears. It s one thing to look at the bikes but quite another to hear them roar to life. Jamie & some of the Mackie H-D Technicians conducted this indoors (which made it a touch louder) to spare us all from the winter that just keeps on giving. Tim and Jamie did a great explanation of the dyno process, well enough that even a non gear head like me could understand. A nice night at Mackie H-D and glad I went. Phill

Grizzly, the joke guy GOLF AND THE COW A man staggered into a hospital with a concussion, multiple bruises, two black eyes, and a five iron wrapped tightly around his throat. Naturally, the Doctor asked him, 'What happened to YOU?' 'Well, I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when at a difficult hole, we both sliced our golf balls into a field of cattle. We went to look for them and while I was looking around I noticed one of the cows had something white at its rear end. I walked over, lifted its tail, and sure enough, there was a golf ball with my wife's monogram on it - stuck right in the middle of the cow's arse. Still holding the cow's tail up, I yelled to my wife, 'Hey, this looks like yours!' I don't remember much after that. Grizz Kind of makes me want to re do my washroom. I would like to thank the following for their contribution to this issue of the Newsletter and do apologize if I missed anyone: Lisa, Mike, Brooke, Darrell, Freda, Bill G, Joe, Karen, Stan, Dave and Grizzly.
