Hawk Talks September 2018 Page 2 President's Message by Steve Rainville Presidents Message Hello Everybody Well September started off with a bang. The International Meet then IDYS day and to end it will be our annual auction. This was the time I drove my Studebaker to an International Meet. My over drive acted up on the way to the meet but kept working on and off. This was concerning but I was going to an International event and everything I could possibly need would be there. Parts information help was just waiting to be had in Tacoma. So with a smile on my face, I went knowing all was good, and when I got there all was good help tools but not the dog gone part I needed. That's when the shade tree mechanics comes in to play a little electrical tape on the relay and on we go. Some of our club members were up there baching it the woman could not make it for one reason or another so we got together and had a great time. One thing we did was go to the Truck Farmers Dinner; that was a first for all of us. What a wonderful group, lots of talk and laughter. I was lucky enough to sit next to someone from my home town of New Bedford Mass. With these new phones she looked up the map of N B I could show her where I grew up and what s now not such a nice part of town, nothing stays the same for long. The car show was on the last day of the meet. Saturday was great the weather could not have been better. The setting was wonderful on the grass beside the museum. There were nice cars and trucks of course! Many stock, modified and customs. On Sunday it was time to go with the Stalnaker s, off we went heading south. My over drive was still hanging on and some 12-13 hours I was home. The car did very well using the A C almost the whole way even through Red Bluff when it was 104. The next Saturday was I D Y S day some of met in Rancho Cordova and about 10:30 got hwy 50 for a nice drive to Placerville. We had lunch at what was the site of the black smith shop where John Studebaker worked and built his wheelbarrows. Any way that's all for now, remember to bring lots of stuff and money to the auction. And we still need a hotel to host our Zone Meet. So in your travels look around and report back to me or Pat. Yours Truly Stephen Rainville. Secretary s Report for Linda Barnard Steve Rainville called the meeting to order. Jon Stalnaker received a call from the Calif. Car Museum. Feb. 2019 they want to display our Studebakers. Need only 4, maybe 5 cars to be on display. Jon will be talking about Studebakers at the museum, so if you want your car on display, give Jon a call. Sat., Sept. 8. was drive your Studebaker Day. Betty and Perry had put together a route, to end up at the place, in Placerville, where the Studebaker Blacksmiths Shop was, many years ago. Call Betty and Perry for info. Thank you for putting this together. A motion was made and 2nd, to send $500.00, as a donation to the Salvation Army. The money is going to help with the fire relief. A motion was made and 2nd to give $100.00 to purchase, School supplies for the Shriners Hospital. Thank you Rick and Johna Pierce for getting the items and delivering them. We still need a theme for the Zone meet. We need to have the theme and a logo, soon. So if you have any ideas, please give Pat Dilling a call. $85.00 in 50/50 Broke it up to 2 winners; Jilg and Brian good job guys. Brian Clerici got the car show certificate. Good going. If you know of anyone in the club needing a card sent, please let Linda Barnard know. If we can brighten someone s day, that s a good thing. Linda Barnard Secretary Editor s Corner By Tim Bates Hi to All my Wonderful Studebaker Family Members, Wow!! What an intense action packed month.
