Archaeological resources are the physical evidence of our past. On our Lewis River lands, there is evidence of those who were here before us: the workers who built the dams and powerhouses, the settlers who logged and homesteaded, and the Native Americans who established seasonal camps, fished, hunted and collected plant foods, as they traveled throughout the Cascades for millennia. The connection between an artifact and the landscape its context is critical to our scientific and cultural understanding of the past. Carelessly removing an artifact or damaging a site destroys that context permanently. It is unlawful in Washington State to collect historic or prehistoric artifacts or to dig into an archaeological site 1. We are committed to good stewardship of archaeological resources. Please help us protect archaeological resources by leaving artifacts in place. 1. Title 27 Chapter 27.53 RCW Changes and cancellations If you wish to make a change or cancel your reservation, please call 48 hours in advance to 360-238-5251, Monday Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a $5 fee for all reservation changes and for cancellations made with less than 48-hours notice. If the cancellation occurs more than 48 hours in advance, no fee is charged.
