INSURANCE & WELL-BEING It is highly recommended that you take out travel and health insurance. You can book this with LAL. Please e-mail reservations@ or go to our website for more information. There are two tiers of healthcare available in South Africa; those being public government clinics, and private hospitals or doctors. Public clinics are available to anyone in need of care but long waiting times to be helped can be expected The standard of health care at public clinics are not yet at the level of European standards Private hospitals and doctors provide healthcare of high standard but can be expensive If you are in need of medical care in South Africa, we urge you to have medical insurance which will pay for private medical care during your stay. Should your medical insurance not authorise upfront payment for private healthcare, you would have to pay any medical costs on the day of receiving any healthcare services All medication, prescribed or not has to be paid for by you or by your medical insurance Most international medical insurance providers offer up-front payments to the nearest private hospital, Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital. We suggest that you check with your insurer whether they will cover any medical costs at this hospital Students aged 16 or 17 on adult courses must have health insurance. Proof of this must be provided on arrival and students will have to purchase on-site if they do not have it Don t feel well? Not serious make an appointment with a local doctor or visit a pharmacist speak to our Student Services Officer A bit serious go to the Emergency Room at Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital Serious dial 112 or go straight to the nearest hospital by taxi our campus security can order this for you
UNDER 18s Accreditation compliance and safeguarding for under 18s means that we need to treat our under 18s a little differently: You need to be back with your homestay host by 22.00 You will need to sign in and sign out of the school The minimum age for drinking and smoking in South Africa is 18 You will need to provide proof of health and travel insurance on arrival. If you cannot do this, you will have to take LAL s insurance for the duration of your stay or until you can provide LAL with proof of alternative cover There is no included leisure programme Parents or legal guardians of students under 18 must complete our welfare and consent form BEFORE arrival: forms./welfare-form
Terms and Conditions Finally, we would ask you to check our terms and conditions, available on our website: /terms-and-conditions-for-students @lalschools
