Day 4 a full-day tour Ayutthaya 06.00: Breakfast INC: Breakfast / lunch / Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, Ayuthaya historical Park and Ayothaya Floating market entrance fee 09.00: Bang Pa-In Royal Palace Originally created by King Prasat Thong in 1632, it is not known whether it was in use at the time of the Burmese raid. But in 1807, when Sunthon Phu, the kingdom's best known poet sailed past, it was a shadow of what Bang Pa-In once was, abandoned and overgrown. According to Dutch chronicler Jeremias Van Vliet, King Ekathotsarot (1605-1610) was once shipwrecked on an island while sailing on the Chao Phraya River. On the island, he was befriended by a woman, who bore his (illegitimate) child. The child grew up to ascend the throne. This boy was later to become known as King Prasat Thong (1632-1656). He founded a monastery on his mother's land and had a pond dug and built a palace to the south of the monastery. The only building mentioned in the chronicle was the Aisawan Thiphya, created in 1632, the year of birth of his son, the future King Narai (1656-1688). 12.00: Lunch

13.00: Ancient city of Ayutthaya, The Thai capital for 417 years, is one of Thailand s major tourist attractions. Many ancient ruins and art works can be seen in a city that was founded in 1350 by King U-Thong when the Thais were forced southwards by northern neighbors. During the period of Ayutthaya being the Thai capital, 33 kings of different dynasties ruled the kingdom until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. The area, well conserved as a historical park, has been included in UNESCO s list of World Heritage since 13 December 1991. Ayutthaya is Thailand s hidden archaeological gem, brimming with Buddhist temples, monasteries and ancient statues of monumental proportions.

16.00: Ayothaya Floating Market covers a vast area of approximately 70 acres and is regarded as the largest tourist attraction in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, in the aspect of cultural heritage conservation. It was established with a primary purpose to serve as both a tourist destination and an educational institution for the preservation of Thai arts and culture, retaining all aspects of Ayutthaya floating market from the past. These include traditional costume, stunning architecture, unique culture and tradition, authentic amusement, folk performance, and the simple lifestyle of Thai people. Ayothaya Floating Market serves as a tourism hub for both domestic and international tourists to enjoy the pleasant environment and gorgeous scenery in a Thai style. While exploring the market, tourists can savor some tasty and delicious food or shop for souvenirs at various stores, scattering around the market. 19.00: Return to Bangkok

Day 5 Kanchanaburi 08.00: Breakfast and Check out 09.00: Transfer to Kanchanaburi INC: Breakfast / lunch / dinner / museum fees Exploring History: During WWII, Japanese forces used Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and conscripted asian labourers to build a rail route between Thailand and Myanmar. The harrowing story became famous after the publication of Pierre Boulle s book The Bridge over the River Kwai, based loosely on real events, and the 1957 movie that followed. War cemeteries, museums and the chance to ride a section of the so-called 'Death Railway' draw numerous visitors to Kanchanaburi. Interest in the railway has been reignited by Richard Flanagan's Man Booker Prizewinning novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North (2013), inspired by the experiences of Flanagan's father as a POW. Kanchanaburi is also an ideal gateway to national parks in Thailand's wild west, and home to an array of lush riverside resorts. 12.00: Lunch

Take an easy day out of Bangkok to visit the River Kwai which is about 128 km to the West.
