June 2017 Rep s Rambling Kamiah So I attended the Idaho State Rally, Kamiah, Idaho, June 9-11. But I have to admit, with rain falling and a pretty wet forecast, I wimped out and caged it. I guess I m just not worthy of being your State Rep. But, on the other hand, I was not the only Oregonian to cage it. Kudos to Nancy Chaput, who did ride! I believe we had 70 for dinner Saturday, which was pretty good given the weather. But the real treat was when Cathy Case showed-up! This was her first Rally in 8 years, since Darrell passed away. While it cost me another Green Cup, it was worth it to see her again (long story). Thanks to Lonnie and the Idaho crew for another wonderful rally. Berry Patch June 18, cloudy but pretty nice day. CZ & I rode out to Westport for the North Coast Dinner Ride. Good ride, and good food. We had 9 attending, but only 3 bikes. Seems like is was wet on the coast. After eats, I followed Dick to the ferry and we went over to the Washington side so Dick could get his check-point at the Duck Inn in Skamockawa. Then we came back through Long View and back over the bridge to Hwy 30 and on home. Nice ride, actually got a little warm on the way back, up to 81 degrees. to the Hood river (Mid-Columbia breakfast), but since sister Mary came to town, I didn t make it to Myrtle Point, maybe this month??? Safety Reminder The attached photo was in the news recently, where a motorcyclist got crushed between two cars I Oregon City, while stop at an intersection. While it was not one of our members, it is always sad to hear of such accidents and the loss of a rider. This poor soul was sitting at an intersection, went a distracted driver ran into him from behind. There were not a lot of details about the incident, but it is very likely the rider never say what was coming. This is a reminder to always stay vigilant and alert to what is happening around you while riding. When I am stopped at a light or stop sign, I always leave a car length between me and the car in front of me. I also scan the area in front and, in particular, behind me, and try to identify an escape route, if needed. My standard practice as a rider is to assume non one ever sees me, so it is my responsibility to see everyone else. This takes a lot of focus, to always be observant. But, when I think about it, that actually is one of the things I like about riding. Because I am so aware, I actually see and experience much more when riding than if I m in a car. So, Stay Vigilant and Safe!!! Coos Bay Oregon State Rally Reminder - Chris & Eva Williams are hosting the Oregon State Rally this year as part of their annual Coos Bay Rally, August 24-28. A Big Thanks to Chris & Eva!!! Request for Extra Pins (Light House) - Reminder To avoid ordering new pins (100 minimum), we are reaching out to past attendees, who may have multiple Light House Pins. If you have any extra pins, we would appreciate you donating them back to Chris. Traditionally the Light House pins were only given out to first time attendees. Each subsequent you, you received a year bar). Also, we will gladly accept any donations for door prizes. Chapter Visits Well, I did make it to the Lebanon breakfast. I also made it Reminder For all newsletter information, or Web postings, please submit to David by the 20 th of each month. June 2017 Metro South (Milwaukie & Oregon City) News - Ben Altman Don t know what it is, but there has been a very large bright yellow ball in the sky the last few days, and even better, the weather has been dry and warm, almost like ridin weather!!! Very Nice! May 26: Sister Mary came over from Yellow Pine (east of Prairie City) to visit on her way up to Seattle. I had the afternoon off and it was a nice sunny day, so we had CZ join us and rode down to Salem for lunch. It worked out good, cause CZ had a part to pick-up at the Bike shop in North Salem. May 27: This morning was a very nice 55 degrees, so Mary and I headed out on the bikes to the Portland breakfast. There were only 7 of us attending, but we had 5 bikes. Amazing what a little warn dry weather does. May 28: CZ cam by about 10:00 and the three of us headed west for the North Coast Diner Ride in Hammond, at Buoy 9. We went out over Cornelius Pass to Hwy 30. Nice ride out there. There were only 6 of us attending, but again 5 bikes. Gee we should form a bike club or something On the way back we wondered our way over Hwy 202 through Jewell, then over to 103 and into Forest Grove, then up over the hill to Newberg and home. Very nice ride!!! With various day trips we logged about 500 miles over the long weekend. This could be habit forming. June 3: Bummer, after two good ridin weekends this morning it was drizzly wet, so it was back into the cage for the ride over to the Wichita Grill. We had just 10 of us attending this drizzle morning. No 50/50, just food and chattin. June 4: Denise and Bernice were up at the IBMC campout at Twisp, so we didn t have a Hood River breakfast. But CZ & I head down (in the cage) to south Salem to Sybil s Omelets. But with the weather improving, we decided to do a short ride. CZ had a check point (Grand Tour) in Lincoln, north of West Salem on 221, so we headed down that way. We intended to take the Wheatland Ferry, but found it was hi n dry on the bank getting some repairs. So, we had to go into Keizer and then over the bridge in Salem and back up the west side. Then we found the Lincoln Store is closed on Sundays. It actually says that in the Tour Book, but apparently ya have to read it to notes know, which Dick did, once we got there (hee hee). Nice ride anyway. Missed the June 10 th breakfast, as I went to Kamiah. June 18: A cool but dry morning. CZ & I rode over to Paul s in Vancouver for the breakfast. We had 8 attending, with 4 bikes. After eats, CZ & I rode down to the Aurora Airport to see the Wings of Freedom, WWII war planes. Very cool old birds, including P51 Mustang (trainer), B24, & B17. CZ wouldn t spring for the $2,200 for me to take a flight in the P51, so we just watched others. Love the sound of that Merlin motor, what a powerhouse! I understand John Pursley bucked-up for a B17 flight. Looking forward to his report. Roseburg Meeting - June 11th We missed the meeting as we had a family reunion at Lake Siskiyou, California. There were eleven present with only one bike in the parking lot. Archie braved the elements to ride. There were three 50-50 drawings with Duane Huff winning two and Archie taking the other one. Lyn and I are looking forward to the Washington State Rally July 6-8 in Kettle Falls and then on to Meyers Flat, California for the International, July 17-20. Hope to see everyone at one or both functions. Until next month be safe, the rubber side down and knees in the breeze. Lynette South Region Its hard to believe that July is just a few days from now. Wasn't it just last week we were saying when will the RAIN END? Yesterday I went for a ride to visit a friend in Central Oregon. Darn it was in the high 90's riding down the North Umpqua. Our members here and from Grants Pass, are putting some miles on their bikes and trikes. Sidney our #3 Granddaughter graduated High School the weekend of the Idaho State Rally. Sorry folks she takes precedence. Its not looking good for the Washington State Rally either. Family coming then something special at church that weekend. So I will be running the meeting here that Sunday also. Archie did a fine job of running out meeting the second Sunday of June. Thanks Archie I really appreciate your help. FOOD FUN FREEDOM AND FRIENDSHIP Ride and enjoy Zack Hoffman 4
