Happy Mother s Day to all the mothers out there. I think spring is finally here, we had our first couple weekly Chapter C Wednesday evening rides. The first ride we had three bikes and it was still a little cool, but the second ride we had five bikes and one vehicle. As I m writing this newsletter I m at the Open Road Honda Spring Open House, lots of excitement over the new Gold Wing! Several Chapter members stopped in and we all talked to a lot of people. Now it s time to ride and ride some more. Saturday, May 5th is our first all day ride. We meet 9 am at SuperPumper on south 12th street. I m hoping for the ND spring winds to slow a little. Check out the ride schedules; both Minot and Bismarck s rides are on Wednesday evenings. They are always a good time with good food. Reminder to register to the MN/ND District Rally, we have a chapter member who will be one of the vendors at this years rally - John s Saddlebag Totes and Wood Creations. He has some real interesting items he makes. Also don t forget about the Fargo Airshow, I m still looking for volunteers to help out at the show. Ride Safe and watch out for that loose sand on the corners. GWRRA ND CHAPTER C May 2018 Clint Wald GWRRA ND Assistant District Director May 2018 Page 1 of 11
The Fargo Airshow is again this summer, July 28 & 29 th. The ND-C & ND District would like to help out again this year. At the last airshow we helped out with ticket sales and were gate ticket takers. We had a few people from Bismarck and several people from Chapter D in Fargo that helped out. It really was a great time and we made a little money for our local chapters. So mark your calendars and plan on coming out. At the last airshow we were able to take some time during the two days to go to the show, so if anything it s a free pass to the show. Check out the Fargo Airshow web site for more information. We will need to know the numbers soon, so as soon as you know if you are able to help and plan to attend please let me know! Do you have photos, news articles, stories of your travels or items for sale? If so, please submit them to Shirley Klein at as-klein@msn.com May 2018 Page 2 of 11
Level III - Safety by Preparedness Level III of the Rider Education Levels Program represents the commitment of the Rider and/or Co-Rider to be prepared to, in the event of an accident, render aid and possibly (hopefully) save lives. This is achieved by becoming knowledgeable in First Aid and CPR through training and by carrying a first aid kit on their motorcycle at all times. It would be great if we could achieve a goal of zero accidents; however, we know that accidents will happen. Because of this, it is important to 1) be fully prepared to lend aid to unfortunate accident victims and 2) to always be prepared to save a life. Level III of the Rider Education Levels Program was developed to deal with such circumstances by recognizing and encouraging proper First Aid and CPR training. CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) has been used to save many lives. Being trained to render CPR and/or First Aid is a tremendous asset to people that the Rider Education Levels Program participant come in contact with. While not required, a Motorist Awareness Seminar at this level exposes the Member to our program to improve awareness of all road users to the presence of motorcycles and trikes. When interfacing with the public, the Level III Rider or Co- Rider can inform them about what we have available to help others share the road with us. Rider Requirements: Be enrolled and current in Level II of the Rider Education Levels Program, having completed a formal approved bike Rider Course within the past three years Maintain current First Aid, CPR or MEDIC First Aid certifications Carry a First Aid kit on the motorcycle. Co-Rider Requirements: Be a current GWRRA Member Maintain current First Aid or CPR or MEDIC First Aid certifications. Note: copies of the validating completion cards are not necessary as long as the expiration date for the courses are noted on the REP Application form when completed. Talk to your District GWRRA Educator and ask him/her to help you complete the appropriate paperwork. There is a nominal fee for patches if they are desired. Stay tuned for next month! May the snow go away and warm weather finally arrive!! May 2018 Page 3 of 11

Upper Michigan Ride Thursday, August 9 - Sunday, August 12, 2018 Come join the Beemans from Minnesota and the Wallochs from Wisconsin for a fun filled riding adventure to the UP of Michigan. The choice resort is The Root Cellar on beautiful Lake Gogebic in Marenisco, Michigan. This is a 4-day adventure that is sure to please our motorcycle riding friends. The UP has many great roads for our riding pleasure with low volumes of traffic. There will be guided rides leaving the resort on Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday. There will also be self-guided rides set up for those that wish to venture out on their own. The Porcupine Mountains, Bond Falls, and Copper Harbor are some of our ride destinations. We are gathering information and costs per person to do a pontoon ride on Lake Gogebic one of the evenings. There will also be games, horseshoes, or a campfire to enjoy. There is a restaurant on the premises for dining from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, and noon-9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Routes will be set up from Wisconsin and Minnesota for the ride up if you wish. Information regarding good meeting points where you will be able to join the group will be sent to you at a later date. For more information about the Root Cellar please visit http://therootcellarresort.com/. Reservations may be made by calling 906-842-3535. Rooms are very reasonably priced starting at $50/night. The room block for the basic rooms will be held until May 1. There are also some cabins for rent and may be reserved if available when you call to reserve your room. There is a minimum two night stay and their cancellation policy is two weeks. Contact Bruce & Barb Beeman at 507-438-7063 or Don & Cheri Walloch at 715-459-2449 for more information. Please let one of us know if you plan on riding along. May 2018 Page 10 of 11
Think 2019 - begin planning now! Hi this is Jeff Stine from MN Chapter N. This year my wife and I had a great trip out to Las Vegas. It was so much fun that we are looking at the next great trip and want to invite some friends along. We are planning a 2 week trip out to the West Coast. Points of interest that we are looking to visit are Devils Tower, Beartooth Hwy, Hwy to the Sun, the Columbian River Gorge, US 101 along the entire Oregon coast, the Redwood forest in California, Lake Tahoe and Reno. We will be crossing 3 major mountain ranges, the Rockies, Cascades and the Sierra Nevada, The time frame that Beth and I are looking at is late June/ early July 2019. If you might be interested in this trip please let me know. I will set up a planning meeting/ BBQ for this Spring to get the wheels rolling so to speak.
