2017 Assistant Chapter Directors Vern & Pat Watts Hello everyone hope you all enjoyed this months rides. We went to some great spots starting with the Branson Rally where 36 Z members attended and had a good time. Next we headed to Illinois for some good food at Ravanelli's and helped Jean P with a fund raiser for Hospice. We had 16 members attend. We had a back to back riding weekend where we went to Meramac, Washington and Hawn state parks and had a poker run set up by Lisa and Dave. The roads and scenery were great. 13 members attended. The following day we went to The Abby and enjoyed some good home cooked food and another nice ride, we had 18 members this day. We ended our ride at Tropical Treats for some refreshing sno-cones, one of our sponsors. Our dinner ride this month was to Main Street Café we had 22 members attend. Our last ride at this date was a Rascals Baseball game set up by Chapter O to promote motorist safety awareness it was a fun evening and Chapter Z had 38 members attend the game. Ride safe and smart Vernon and Pat Watts
2017 Rider Educators Les & Sara Gibson Hello Chapter members and all others that read this article. I hope everyone had a great time at the Missouri District Rally in Branson Missouri. Wasn t the drill teams something else? I have spoken about PLP (parking lot practice) in previous articles. Unfortunately, while practicing one of the riders went down. The point I am making is, if you are going to practice you should ALWAYS have someone with you. It is the safe thing to do. Moving on; I decided to invest in a dolly to move my Goldwing around in the garage. I watched some videos on You Tube, read some reviews and made a BAD purchase. I should have taken more time doing my research. I purchased a Big Horn motorcycle dolly rated at 1250 lbs. I watched a video where a fellow pushed around a HD like it was nothing. Needless to say, the product is not stable enough to support a Goldwing and I would strongly suggest you Do Not purchase this dolly for a GL1800. I did find another dolly made by Condor; however, it is very pricey, but I think it will do the job. As we get older, it is important that we should think of ways to make riding and handling a heavy motorcycle safer. This was my goal in looking for a dolly; remember YOU make the final decision. Until next month ride safe, watch out for animals and people using cell phones. Our Motto... Share the Road! Our Mission... To Facilitate A Reduction In Motorcycle Crashes With Other Motor Vehicles. Mark & Sharon at the 2017 MO District Light Show Branson, MO Can't believe we are nearing July already. Seems like I just sent off the June newsletter article and we were headed for Branson Rally. Someone slow this down! Speaking of Branson we had great weather this year, lots of fun, and all got home safe. One thing about Chapter Z and I am sure other Chapters are the same, is if a rider has mechanical issues the others step up to the plate and take care of the problem or make sure they are not left stranded. At the light show at the landing in Branson a couple bikes had depleted batteries and KZ got them started with his battery pack he carries all the time in his bike. A real good thing to have. Also as 3 of us left Branson for the ride home the battery on one trike went dead on highway 65. One trike stayed with down trike and other went back to Walmart and purchased new battery and was back on the road is less than 45 minutes. Another was meeting at gas station in Festus to ride to Nunnery and a bike had a dead battery. Bill Briley after seeing KZ's battery pack bought one at Branson and he jumped the dead battery and all 10 bikes/trikes drove to my house and changed the battery and were on the road in 20 minutes. (Do you know how many Chapter Z men it takes to change a battery on an 1800 Goldwing? Answer: 10). My point is motorcycle safety is not just looking out for other drivers, wearing the safety gear, and making sure your bike is up to par, it is making sure your fellow riders are taken care of when they have a problem. This is what has always impressed me about Chapter Z. They will not leave you stranded! I have seen them help other riders many times and go above and beyond to make sure they are taken care of. Motorcycles are different than automobiles when they break down the parts are not readily available and repair shops are few and far between. So this is why it means so much to have the people that belong to Chapter Z. Ride Smart and Ride Safe! MARK & SHARON MEYER Motorcycle Awareness
