April 22, 2013 Group Study Exchange 2013: Austria Austria is synonymous with Mozart, Vienna, stunning vistas, The Sound of Music and more than 1,000 years of history. Members of the inbound group study exchange team from District 1920 gave club members an informative overview of their country (technically a federal republic comprised of nine independent federal provinces) and even taught us how to yodel! Team leader Julius Stiglechner introduced us to Michaela Waldl (left and bottom), Susanne Pauer (right), Teresia Jeschke (below) and Katharina Wollhofen. The GSE group provided pictures and background on each member. You can find this information in the accompanying pages of this week s Spin! The GSE team will travel around the northern Indiana this month. Read Rotarian Mike Kelly s introductory remarks in this Spin and learn more about our club s group study exchange. Find out more about Austria through the Embassy of Austria in Washington, DC.

The Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange Has Returned to District 6540 and Fort Wayne! (Below is club member Mike Kelly s introduction of Monday s Rotary Inbound GSE Team from Austria) This vocational and cultural exchange program for non-rotarians between the ages of 25 and 40 was created to promote peace and understanding throughout the world. We all fondly remember recent teams from Bulgaria, South Korea, Mexico, Turkey, and Argentina. Well, the tradition continues for us again today because of contributions to the foundation by Rotarians like you. This year, our district is exchanging with Rotary District 1920 - Western Austria. Next month, our outbound team will be traveling there. That team includes three young professionals from Fort Wayne who are sponsored by our club. Tara, Rhonda, and Kirk are finalizing plan for their upcoming adventure. And today, I am thrilled to introduce our inbound team. They arrived in Fort Wayne last Friday night and have already experienced a Sunday Brunch with the Anthony Wayne Club, a TinCaps game, and a tour of our beautiful Embassy Theatre. This afternoon and the rest of this week, they will be spending time in our beautiful city, learning about their vocations and our cultural treasures. From Fort Wayne, they will travel to South Bend, the District Conference in Merrillville, Crown Point, and Bluffton. They will return home on May 11. I am honored to introduce their Rotarian Team Leader, Julius Stiglechner to the podium. He is an energy consultant and has been a Rotarian for 28 years. He will tell you more about his life and introduce his team. Please give a warm Fort Wayne welcome to the team!
