Wow!!! Also surprising was, he knew that I was Governor of District VIII Gyros and was quick to ask that I convey his greetings, to everyone, when I did my December Newsletter; so, on behalf of Santa, Eileen and myself, we take this opportunity to wish you and your family a Holiday Season filled with Joy; and a New Year full of peace and happiness. Merry Christmas A Fraternity of Friendship

Page 2 WELCOME NEW MEMBERS I am delighted to Welcome the seven (7) NEW Gyro Members to District VIII, since June: Edmonton Club: Nelson Club: Sherwood Park Club: Stampede City Club: Peter Gommerud Dunc Mills Joe Duncan Nicholas T. Ewanchuk Lester R. Bellan Thad S. Prevette John Cobb CLUB BULLETIN EDITORS To the four (4) Club Bulletin Editors, we have in District VIII - Bryan Sherwood (Calgary Club); Fred Schulte (Edmonton Club); Ian Greig (Stampede City Club); and Scott Brisbin (Sherwood Park Club) many thanks to each of you for your consistent efforts in communicating your Club s activities, announcements and soooo much more information, for the good of Gyro! They are a delight to receive, read and enjoy!!! CLUB VISITATION On December 5, at the Edmonton Club s Christmas Dinner, I had the pleasure of presenting Mike Matei with the Gyro Award of Merit, which is perhaps the most prestigious of the Gyro Awards because it is for service that is recognized and acknowledged by his peers within his lifetime. Mike was sponsored into Gyro by PIP Marty Larson, in 1988, and his accomplishments have been many since that time. Mike was, also, my sponsor to Gyro. DISTRICT CURLARAMA - BANFF Marty Larson (PIP), Ray Dallaire (President), Mike & Sharon Matei & me. Congratulations to John Hodgson, PDG, and his committee, from the Calgary Club, for organizing an excellent 2017 District Curlarama, in Banff. There were 8 Clubs registered, with 52 curlers and 8 noncurler supporters; and a good time was had by all. International President Dale Woodroffe dropped by on both Saturday and Sunday to ensure all was going well and to share in some of the fellowship. Also, special mention should be given to the Sherwood Park Club, who had 12 of their members participating! While everyone who was at Curlarama was a Winner, the Trophies were presented as follows: A Event: The Albernis - the 2016 defenders;

Page 3 B Event: Sherwood Park Club; C Event: Regina Club; D Event: Nelson Club. For a detailed account of the weekend s activities I have included, as an Appendix to my Newsletter, the article that John Hodgson wrote for the December Gyroscope... enjoy. Oh, by the way, Curlarama 2018 is scheduled for November 2 4, 2018. GYRO INTERNATIONAL NEWS On December 14, International President Dale Woodroffe held his third (3 rd ) Board of Governors Internet Conference Meeting, allowing the Governors and the International Executive Council to share ideas and the opportunity to simply communicate with each other. As with anything technologically new, we still had some challenges BUT progress has definitely been made since our first Conference Meeting, so we should be in good shape come the January 18, 2018, Conference Meeting which will be the replacement for the usual International Interim Meeting. Minutes of these Conference Calls can be found on the International website: http://international.gyro.ws/index_htm_files/conference%20call%20binder%201-2.pdf UPCOMING CONVENTIONS 2018: District VIII is in Nelson, BC: June 7 10; International is in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin: June 25 29; 2019: Yours in Gyro, District VIII is in Drumheller, AB, hosted by the Edmonton Club; International is in Reno, Nevada; Peter A. Carter Governor District VIII PS. Club Presidents, please keep me posted on your Club activities.
