DEAR TEXAS EX, Sail along the Mississippi from Memphis to New Orleans and glimpse the tumultuous and haunting history of the South an anguish that gave life to the heartfelt chords of blues, jazz, and rock and roll. The lower Mississippi Delta region, considered the birthplace of the blues, compels music connoisseurs and fans alike to pay homage to the history and legends that shaped American music. Before embarking on the American Queen, spend the night in Memphis, a vibrant city with a rich musical heritage and home to Sun Studio and Elvis Presley s Graceland. Then voyage to Vicksburg, the site of a dramatic siege that became a critical turning point to end the chasm of a once divided country. Now a vibrant center of Southern hospitality, Vicksburg is a unique blend of old and new, displaying its heritage with tremendous pride. Next travel to Natchez, the oldest city on the Mississippi, graced with stunning gardens and palatial mansions, and then to Baton Rouge. This capital city s unique political history is reflected in a collection of memorable landmarks, from the elegantly furnished Old Governor s Mansion to the imposing neo-gothic Old State Capitol. Continue to St. Francisville, a town with unique shops and historic homes to discover. Before disembarking in New Orleans, journey to Nottoway and explore the impressive halls of the largest plantation house in the South. This outstanding itinerary is brought to you by the Texas Exes Flying Longhorns travel program, which supports the association s mission of promoting and protecting The University of Texas at Austin and uniting its alumni around the world. The association is a huge proponent of continuing education and there is no better classroom than our world. Experience rich history and culture in the company of your fellow Longhorns!
