PROPOSED ITINERARY Friday, July 01 2016 Scheduled seaplane flight from Ketchikan to Lodge at Whale Pass (45-minutes). Saturday, July 02 2016 Adventures at Lodge at Whale Pass. Optional activities for the day include: Sea Kayaking & Glaciers Take a day cruise to LeConte Glacier and kayak among the icebergs. LeConte Glacier is the southernmost tidewater glacier in the Northern hemisphere. Located outside of Petersburg, Alaska, the glacier is rapidly retreating into LeConte Inlet. We have actually had clients in recent years that have been to Glacier Bay National Park and other tide water glaciers that commented on the fact that the icebergs of LeConte Glacier were much larger and more impressive. Hiking Prince of Wales Island is laced with hundreds of miles of remote logging roads and trails to explore. 4-night stay at Lodge at Whale Pass, Lodge Room 1 Double All meals and beverages (including alcohol) are included during your stay. The main lodge features a great room that acts as the lodge s hub, off of which all the guest rooms radiate. There is a separate spa located away from the main buildings that features a sauna and hot tub along with treatment rooms where the resident massage therapist performs her magic (including Alaskan Hot Rock therapy). The Lodge at Whale Pass is blessed with a large amount of space for guests. All of the guest rooms radiate off of the main lodge's great room. The great room in the main lodge is a very quiet space designed for reading, conversing and enjoying the view by the fireplace. The more raucous 'rec' room is a detached building that serves as a nice sound buffer for those wanting to retire early in the main lodge. Every room of course, has its own private bath. Most rooms are designed for two people; however there are a couple of single rooms and three large water view suites. The suites feature large sitting areas and oversized bathrooms. The dining room is right off of the great room. Sneak into the dining room in between meals and grab a cookie or snack. Dare to peek in the kitchen to see what the chefs are up to. Meet Chef Peter Holtmann who, since joining the lodge in 2005, has developed one of the best food and beverage services in any remote lodge.

The staff at the Lodge at Whale Pass can offer you many different hiking options. There are numerous improved trails on the island, plus many more on some of the various islands surrounding the Lodge. Mt. Biking Southeast Alaska Much of Southeast Alaska and the Tongass National Forest are laced with logging roads and trails. With the heyday of logging long past, many of the roads are being blocked off by the Forest Service to motor vehicle traffic, making them perfect for both biking and hiking. Prince of Wales Island has hundreds of miles of such roads. Plus with our S.U.B.'s (Sports Utility Boats) we can load the bikes up and cruise off to distant islands for rides on single track and abandoned roads that few people will ever bike on Caving El Capitan Cave is the largest known cave in Alaska, and is also the first cave in Southeast Alaska where fossil bones were discovered. Tours of El Capitan are arranged through the Tongass National Forest. The cave entrance faces south across the shallow El Capitan Passage, providing a nice view of Kosciusko Island. It is also located above the El Capitan Forest Service Camp, which gets its water from a spring that emerges below the cave (and ultimately from a river inside the cave). A wooden stairway has been constructed up the long hillside to the cave and tours are provided for visitors by Tongass National Forest. Whale Watching There are few experiences in life that rival the awe of experiencing an encounter with a whale. The inside passage has a number of species migrate through its waters throughout the year, including the Gray Humpback, Dall's Porpoise and Orca. The area also has some resident Humpbacks who stay around all year to take advantage of the rich feeding grounds. Wildlife of the Inside Passage You will be surrounded by a diverse population of wild animals, marine mammals and seabirds that are worth the trip alone. Whether just keeping your eyes out for a seal or eagle during a day of fishing or venturing out specifically to view a Tufted Puffin and a Dall's Porpoise in the same day, staff can help you discover the wide array of flora and fauna the region has to offer. Black tail (Sitka) Deer, Loons, Black Bears, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Arctic Ravens, Gray Whales, Wolves, River Otters, Martin and Mink can be seen out around the island, and from the Lodge! Orcas, Roosevelt Elk, Sea lions, Brown Bears, Humpback whales, Sea Otters, Dall's Porpoise, and more can be seen within an hour boat ride or floatplane flight. Sea Kayaking There are more miles of coastline, more bays and inlets and more islands within 50 miles of our lodge than you can cover in a full summer of sea-kayaking, much less a week or 5 days. You have the option of paddling around on the placid 'home waters' of Whale Passage, right from the comforts of the dock, with or without a guide. Or strap the kayaks onto a 'S.U.B.'

(Sports Utility Boat) and you are off to distant islands, fjords and glaciers for half day and all day wilderness trips. These fully guided excursions can be half day combined with other activities such as fishing, mountain biking, beach-combing or wildlife viewing. Drop-Off & Un-guided Exploring of Prince of Wales Take a stroll down the beach at low-tide. Hike the creek next to the Lodge up to its headwaters at a wetland marsh. Cruise out in one the lodge skiffs to check a crab pot. Paddle a kayak around the point toward Thorne Island and search one of the many protected coves. Or take a vehicle and explore the island's web of deserted logging roads We can also take you out in one of the big boats (with or without 'toys') and drop you off at one of many remote spots for your own adventure. Freshwater Fishing Prince of Wales Island is blessed with hundreds of rivers, lakes and streams to cast your line. Depending on the season, you can be angling for one of the species of Salmon in the streams. Rainbow and Cutthroat Trout are in the lakes year round. Their guides are happy to take you into some of their favorite holes in little rivers, streams and lakes around the island, and help you enjoy some great light tackle action. The guides also provide you with fly fishing instructions if needed Saltwater Fishing The captains are happy to take you out on either side of the Prince of Wales Island for Halibut, Silver Salmon and rockfish depending on the time of the season you are at the lodge. This area is well known for its abundance of fish. You will fish from state of art 29' walk around boats they call the "S.U.B.'s" or Sports Utility Boats. They are complete with heated cabins, bathroom, and berths to take a nap. They have outfitted them in the latest marine electronics including vhs radio, satellite phone, radar, chart plotter and fish-finding sonar. With custom Yakima racks, the S.U.B s can pack all the 'toys' you can handle for the day. Spa Facility Cap off the day by enriching your overall health and vitality in the cedar-walled spa facility nestled on a waterfront hillside amongst tall stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar where you will find a hot tub, wood stove sauna and customized spa treatments.

Three restaurants, an athletic club, a full business center, and 14 shopping venues complement the 547 guest rooms. Perhaps the best features of the centrally-located hotel are its panoramic views of Cook Inlet, the Chugach Mountains, the Anchorage cityscape, and Mt. McKinley. Bed configuration: One King bed View: Bay or mountain Private transfer from hotel to Lake Hood, Anchorage. Today you will be met by your driver at your hotel for your transfer to Lake Hood, Anchorage. Scheduled seaplane flight from Lake Hood in Anchorage to Winterlake Lodge (1-hour). Luggage restriction: 22.7-kg (50-lbs) per person

3-night stay at Winterlake Lodge, Cabin 1 Double All meals (breakfast, lunch, appetizers, dinner, and snacks), house wine (during lunch & dinner), and premium wine, beer, and soda (during appetizer hour) are included during your stay. Named one of National Geographic's Unique Lodges of the World in 2015, Winterlake Lodge is an oasis of stunning scenery, sophisticated comforts, and wilderness adventures. Located nearly 200 miles northwest of Anchorage, on the route of the world famous Iditarod dog sled race, Carl and Kirsten Dixon s remote log lodge sits on 15 acres overlooking Finger Lake and the Tordrillo Mountains. Winterlake is one of the few fly-in lodges that are open year round and can accommodate only a small number of guests at a time, allowing Carl and Kirsten to create a truly personalized experience for each guest. The lodge serves as the Finger Lake checkpoint for the Iditarod sled dog race at Mile 198 along the Iditarod National Historic Trail and is home to approximately twenty sled dogs. Behind the lodge, Wolverine Mountain offers intriguing hiking and wildlife viewing. You will be able to observe many species of Alaska birds, wildflowers, and berries that are difficult to see in other locales. The property includes five individual guest cabins, a central main lodge, gardens, sled dog lot, and staff cabins. The hand built, knotty pine guest cabins with private baths were all made by family and staff. This remote and rustic location settles guests into wild and rugged mountains and glaciers, while surprising them with luxury comforts and outstanding service. The main building includes a comfortable room for relaxing by the fire and viewing the lake from large picture windows, along with a dining area and large kitchen, (Kirsten has published two cookbooks so you can expect excellent cuisine) showcasing daily meals, appetizers, and wine tasting. Other amenities include a yoga room, massage therapy, a rustic cedar hot tub, and lakeside wood-burning sauna. Thursday, July 07 2016 Today you have the opportunity to enjoy the many lodge based activities at your leisure. The various activities are listed above.

Friday, July 08 2016 Scheduled helicopter supported adventures. Today, in consultation with your guides, you will enjoy helicopter-supported explorations into the backcountry by Robinson R-44 helicopter: drop into a few of Carl s favorite fishing holes for salmon, rainbow trout, Arctic grayling, or Dolly Varden; raft down Happy River, with intriguing flora and fauna and just enough exciting water to get the adrenaline flowing; hike to a glacier ridge, traversing waterfalls, ice walls, and other unexplored terrain; or fly up to Wolverine Ridge for dinner with a view. Hike to a Glacier Ridge From the front deck of the lodge, you can look south to the mountains that make up part of the Alaska Range. This is where you will go for day hikes and exploration into some of the most intriguing terrain imaginable. You will traverse glaciers, waterfalls, and ice walls. Glacier Trekking Depart the lodge with your guide via helicopter and after a 10-minute scenic flight up the Hayes Valley, you will land on the glacier. Depending on your interest, you can take a brief 30-minute walk, or longer, and try your hand at ice climbing. Explore the crevasses, moulins, ice falls, snowfields, and other glacial features. The glacier here is nearly flat affording easy walking. Raft a Wild River The Happy River is possibly everyone's favorite river, with intriguing flora and fauna and just enough exciting water to get your adrenaline flowing. The river is just around the corner from the lodge and the float is easily done in half a day. Brown and black bears are frequently seen fishing near the river. Sportfishing The lodge offers instruction in fly-fishing and fly-tying. Learn how to tie Alaska-style flies and learn how to cast with one of the resident fishing experts. Fly-fishing for grayling, salmon, and rainbows can be done in the lakes surrounding the lodge. Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Grayling all require clear, cold and highly oxygenated water to thrive. This they find in Alaska in abundance: fish for these species at Winterlake Lodge!

Saturday, July 09 2016 Scheduled seaplane flight from Winterlake Lodge to Redoubt Bay Lodge (1-hour). Luggage restriction: 22.7-kg (50-lbs) per person Scheduled Guided Brown Bear Viewing Tour (8-hours). On this full-day tour, you ll take a floatplane from Lake Hood to Redoubt Bay home to one of the densest populations of brown bears in the state. Your base for the day will be the Redoubt Bay Lodge; situated at the entrance to Lake Clark Pass, it is the only lodge within the 171,000-acre critical habitat area, and the staff will set your day s agenda with the focus on seeing the bears in their natural habitat. Especially between mid-june and mid-august, you may have the opportunity to see bears up close as they come down to the lake to fish for salmon. The area is also renowned for its resident and migratory bird populations, and is the world s only nesting ground for the Tule goose. Flights, lunch, and guided bear viewing via boats are included.
