HC-7 REUNION NEWSLETTER MARCH 2004 ANNOUNCING: THE HC-7 YEAR 2004 REUNION 21 April 25 April in Memphis, Tennessee Springtime for HC-7! Spend the 22-25 April part of it in the Bluff City! OK, never heard of that, eh? Stop me when you get it, & I ll let the city fathers know how their marketing s working Spend April 22-25 in the Mid-South? Still not ringing any bells? Read on! Spend it in the birthplace of Holiday Inns! Spend it in a city where Elvis was not born! Where you usually won t not find B.B. King in his eponymous restaurant... but you might. Where their idea of a name for a tourist attraction is Mud Island!! Where there actually is the best barbeque in the U.S. (no match for the sheer botulism-risk thrill of monkey on a stick in Po City, but pretty good anyway). Where the airplane named after the city has been moved out of the city, since staying in the city was leading to major deterioration. Where the east-west intersection leading into the city ends in... a dead end. Where local affinity for antiquity has led to its sports arena being named after: a large sandpile! OK - give up? Spend it in MEMPHIS!! That s right - Memphis, TN - home of Graceland, Mud Island, the Pyramid, BB King s on Beale St., the birthplace of Holiday Inns and the current home of FedEx (all hail to its naval aviator founder and corporate source of my fortnightly sustenance!), former and maybe future home of the B17 Memphis Belle, occasional home of Cybil Shepherd who lives on the Bluffs, still home of Elvis who bags groceries at the local Kroger but prefers to keep a low profile these days, home of Interstate, 3 Pigs, Rendezvous, Commissary, Corky s, The Pig on Beale, Hog Wild, and about 7,000 other eateries devoted to consuming inordinate amounts of pork smoked and seasoned the way only the locals can do. So, if you ve read this far, the 2004 HC-7 Reunion will be in Memphis - actually in its suburb, Millington, home to Naval Support Activity Mid-South (formerly NAS Memphis). While it s all voluntary, and there are many other things to do in Memphis (like sampling as many of those 7,000+ pigeateries), details follow: Chairman Bob Cameron 901-553-7790 RBC092845@aol.com 1
Lodging: We ve reserved a number of rooms at the Admiralty Inn (details following, website at www.admiraltyinns.com).
