Goldbar Upper left: Goldbar Canyon, a BLM Roadless Area, is a popular hiking area near Moab. Motorized use in this area causes significant conflicts with traditional nonmotorized recreationists. Above right: BLM plans to officially authorize this off-road vehicle "route" within the roadless area. Lower Right: BLM plans to officially authorize this off-road vehicle "route" within the roadless area. 2 Hell Roaring Canyon Upper Left: Ancient rock art adorns the walls of Hell Roaring Canyon, a BLM Roadless Area. Above Right: Visitors walk along the stream bed that BLM plans to authorize as an off-road vehicle route within this roadless area. Lower Left: Riparian areas are very rare and valuable in Utah's arid deserts, yet BLM plans to authorize motor vehicle use of this stream bed.
Labyrinth Canyon Upper left: Boaters float down the calm waters of Labyrinth Canyon, on the Green River. Above right: BLM plans to designate this old mining track on the river's bank as an official motor vehicle route. Motor vehicle use along the river will significantly impact the serenity of the Green River for many miles in Labyrinth Canyon. Middle Right: Off-road vehicle use in desert streams in side canyons increases sedimentation, erosion and loss of vegetation. Lower Right: Ancient rock art on the walls of tributary canyons is at increased risk of vandalism and damage due to BLM's proposed motor vehicle routes in the Labyrinth Canyon Roadless Area. Below: Deadman Point is a striking feature of imposing sandstone cliffs along the Green River in Labyrinth Canyon. BLM plans to authorize motor vehicle routes on Deadman Point, a BLM Roadless Area.
Muddy Creek Above: BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this unique roadless area that exhibits nearly every type of terrain and geologic strata found in Utah's canyon country. Right: BLM s Muddy Creek Roadless Area, with its badlands, sinous sandstone canyons, and iconic buttes and mesas is adjacent to Capitol Reef National Park. This roadess area is rich with prehistoric cultural resources and paleontological artifacts -- sharks teeth have been found in the shale deposits in the southern portion of this area. Lower right: Harts Point Roadless Area includes this remote plateau with sheer 1000-foot red rock cliffs and deep side canyons eroded into the sandstone that offers expansive views into Canyonlands National Park and beyond. BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this roadless area that has numerous well-known prehistoric rock art and geologic attractions. 4 Muddy Creek Below: North Six Shooter Peak in the Bridger Jack Mesa Roadless Area is just one of the area's stunning geologic features that have been carved into layers of Triassic rock formations. This area is also rich in ancient archaeological artifacts. BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this roadless area adjacent to Canyonlands National Park. 5 Harts Point 6 Bridger Jack Mesa
Moqui Canyon Above: Moqui Canyon is a 20-mile long, 600-foot deep canyon cut in the Navajo and Wingate Sandstone layers in the Mancos Mesa Roadless Area. The stream in the canyon bottom certainly attracted the Ancestral Puebloans who left behind rock art and an abundance of prehistoric artifacts. BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this roadless area adjacent to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Upper right: BLM plans to authorize this motor vehicle "route" in the canyon bottom in the BLM Roadless Area. Lower right: BLM plans to designate a motor vehicle route in this stream bed in Moqui Canyon. Motor vehicle use in riparian areas causes significant erosion and sedimentation, and the loss of vegetation and wildlife habitat. Below left: Raplee Ridge, part of the San Juan River Roadless Area in southeastern Utah, is a long, narrow, folded anticline that formed over 50 million years ago. BLM plans to authorize off-road vehicle use and oil and gas development in this Roadless Area. 8 Raplee Ridge
Upper Desolation Canyon Above: Upper Desolation Canyon is a favorite place for boaters and kayakers to enjoy a peaceful river experience. The area is rich in prehistoric cultural resources. BLM plans to allow oil and gas development that would impact the natural quiet and undeveloped nature of this rugged and remote landscape. Right: BLM plans to authorize this motor vehicle "route" in the Upper Desolation Canyon Roadless Area. Below: The White River Roadless Area is dominated by deep canyons and undulating ridges, with the White River, itself, flowing through the roadless area. BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this roadless area. 9 Upper Desolation Canyon 10 White River
Bitter Creek Above: Bitter Creek Roadless Area is a very remote area in the Book Cliffs near the Utah-Colorado state line. BLM plans to authorize oil and gas development and off-road vehicle routes in this roadless area. Right: BLM plans to authorize this motor vehicle "route" through a wetland in the BLM Roadless Area. Below: BLM plans to authorized this motor vehicle "route" through this meadow in the BLM's Roadless Area.
