President s Message This month is a very busy one for our Deloraine Club as we have a Friendship Exchange with Taiwan, beginning next Tuesday and this is a reminder that we will meet them at The Empire Hotel that evening with a welcome dinner. Following on from our Taiwanese friends, we will have a Professional Development Exchange visit from District 9980 (NZ), which extends from Timaru to Bluff in the South Island. Their programme is being finalised in the next few days but I can say that they will give a presentation at our Rotary meeting on Tuesday 26 th March and on Thursday 28 th March, we will have a farewell BBQ out at Huntsman s Lake but I ll have more to say about that later. A reminder to all Rotarians that the District Conference will be from Friday 12 th April to Sunday 14 th April. It is being held at the Elwick Function Centre and promises to be a great event. Rotary Function Centre A meeting of the Rotary Function Centre Committee, and any Rotarians interested in attending, will be held on Friday 8 th March, commencing at approximately 5.00pm at the Centre. It is hoped that this meeting will only be for an hour!!! The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the future direction of the Rotary Function Centre management, reporting to Board, etc. Strategic plan, action list for moving forward, with regards to the Club s ownership and management of the facility. Michael Plunkett M: 0418 778 615 Assistance required National Square Dancing Convention Assistance will be required from Rotarians, family and friends from Tuesday 23 rd to Sunday 28 th April for the National Square Dancing Convention. We will be required to assist with car-parking and refreshments (tea / coffee etc.) Assistance will mainly be from approximately 6.00 to 9.30pm. There are about 570 registrations for this Convention. More details will be made available at forthcoming meetings, and lists will be circulated, but in the meantime you can contact Ann Axelsen (041 111 6480) to advise of your availability. INNER WHEEL March Meeting The March meeting will be held on Tuesday 19 th and will be a combined meeting with the Rotary Club at the Bush Inn 6.15 for 6.30pm. Cost is $26.00 per person. Family of Rotary Anniversary: Rotary Club of Deloraine 5 th March (1957) Condolences: President Maree and fellow Rotarians extend their condolences to Anne Haines and family on the death of PP Henry Haines 21 st February. Henry Haines inducted into the Club 28 th January, 1964. Held most positions, President 1971/72. Resigned in the 1984/85 years. Was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 1987. INES TASMANIAN BUCKET LIST Ines leaves us on 6 th July, 2019 and whilst she has seen quite a bit of Tasmania since her arrival last year, she still has a number of sites/places that she wishes to see and experience. She has spent some time researching her bucket list and this is printed below, along with the vacant weekends available for such travel before she returns to Austria. If any Deloraine Rotarians, or other Rotarians, are able to assist Ines to undertake the following activities would you please inform either Anne Forsyth (0488 651 330) or John Dare (0410 557 598), or Ines herself (0444 515 547)? Tertiary Scholarships Emma Taylor Is dedicated, enthusiastic, committed and always meets deadlines. Will be studying for a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition) off campus through UTAS. With the hope of completing a doctorate of nutrition in the future. Emma is highly interested in the human body s ability to thrive and wants to help prevent people from becoming ill instead of curing them once they are already unwell. Through school years, Emma has been participated in Swimming, Hockey, Equestrian. Sarah Larcombe Will be studying a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Whilst Sarah was relatively successful in her academic achievements, she counts her greatest accomplishment as being the guest speaker at the ANZAC Ceremony hosted by the Deloraine High School, in 2016. Sarah has been working part time at the Westbury RSL Club, a member of the Deloraine Amateur Basketball Club, Pony Club. Sarah states:- By accepting me as a recipient of the grant, you will be supporting a student who is dedicated to her studies and who will represent the Meander Valley as a member of community and, in the long -run, a successful graduate. I thank you greatly.

Bridget Teirney Bridget is a civil engineer with ten years of experience in the water and sanitation sector, working across service planning, technical support and service delivery. A project manager for the NGO Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor, based in London, she works with local utilities in developing countries to provide for millions who lack access to water and sanitation. Recently Bridget led a citywide study in Lusaka, Zambia, developing a Faecal Sludge Management Plan for the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company. Slava and Sharon Grigoryan Entertainment On Friday evening and again on Sunday morning Slava and Sharon will play for us. Slava is a virtuoso classical guitarist, heard regularly on ABC FM. Sharon is the cellist in the superlative Australian String Quartet. John Sautelle John is passionate about supporting people, leaders and organisations navigate change. He is the author of Choose Your Stories, Change Your Life which details the developmental change process he has evolved over the past 18 years drawing on the latest research in psychology, neuroscience and adult development. In his professional work around the world John helps create confident, future-fit leaders and teams capable of navigating an increasingly complex world. John supports senior leaders tap into heart, body, mind and spirit to grow themselves and their impact in sustainable and life-giving ways. He is a highly engaging conference presenter.
