Parents choosing to provide their own transportation need to contact Southland Church NO LESS THAN 2 weeks before the camper s week at camp. TRAVELLING BY BUS Kids Camp #1: Check-in of campers will begin at 11:00 am on the first day of Kids Camp #1. Please plan to be at Southland Church at this time to ensure you have enough time to get through the check-in process. The bus will leave for camp at 12:00 pm. Kids Camps 2, 3, and 4: Check-in of campers will begin at 12:00 pm on the first day of Kids Camps 2, 3, and 4. Please plan to be at Southland Church at this time to ensure you have enough time to get through the check-in process as it has changed from previous years. The bus will leave for Bird River Bible Camp at 1:00 pm. The check-in process is quite simple but will take some time. It includes the following: - Letting the Check-in staff know that your child has arrived - KIDS & MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPS: Letting us know who is picking your child up at the bus on the last day of camp. The name(s) we are given are the only people who will be allowed to pick your child up. - Paying any outstanding fees and submitting waiver, if not in yet. - A visit with one of our Medical Professionals, which includes a lice-check and handing in any medications they will be bringing to camp. Bird River Bible Camp 2019 2

We are conducting lice-checks at the church BEFORE campers get on the bus to go to camp. If your child is found to have lice, they will not be permitted to attend camp. For this reason, please do not put your camper s luggage in the marked luggage area until you have finished the check-in process. The bus will then return to Southland Church on the last day of Camp at 3:45 pm. PROVIDING YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION If you are providing your own transportation, arrive at Bird River Bible Camp on the first day of Camp at Kids Camp #1: 2:00pm (please do not arrive early). Kids Camps 2, 3, and 4: 3:00pm (please do not arrive early). Upon arrival at camp, please go to the Registration tent to go through the check-in process: - Letting the check-in staff know that your child has arrived - KIDS & MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPS: Letting us know who is picking your child up on the last day of camp. The name(s) we are given are the only people who will be allowed to pick your child up. - Paying any outstanding fees and submitting waiver, if not in yet. - A visit with the Camp Medical Professional, which includes a lice-check and handing in any medications they will be bringing to camp. If your child is found to have lice, they will not be permitted to attend camp. Campers may be picked up on the last day of Kids Camp at 1:00 pm. If you are not at the camp by 1:45 pm on the last day to pick up your child, they will be sent home on the bus to ensure that they have a ride home. Please take note that it takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to the camp from Steinbach. There is a large camp sign on the right-hand side of the road. *Note: If you find yourself on the bridge that crosses Bird River, you have gone too far. FOOD SERVICES On the first day of camp, campers will receive supper as well as an evening snack. The rest of the week we serve 3 wellbalanced meals a day in addition to an afternoon and evening snack. Bird River Bible Camp 2019 3

Due to allergies, we ask that parents DO NOT send any food/snacks on the bus or to camp. FOOD ALLERGIES & SPECIAL DIETS We are able to accommodate some special requests based on dietary needs. Please ensure that we know about any food allergies or special diets your child has at least 2 weeks prior to their camp session. We charge a $30 additional cost for campers who require a special diet (this allows us to purchase the necessary ingredients required). We will do our best to ensure there is no cross-contamination in the process of special diet food preparation and that allergies/medically diagnosed diet restrictions are taken seriously. But, as in any other food industry, there is always the chance that ingredients may have come into contact with any specific allergen at any given point. WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP Packing for camp can be challenging. Here is a list of some items you don t want to forget to bring and a list of what should stay at home! Bring: Bible, notebook & pen Any clothes needed (T-shirts, sweatshirts, jacket, rain gear, underwear, socks, pajamas, hat, etc.) Appropriate swimwear Girls No bikinis or short tankinis allowed Boys No speedos allowed Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, soap, towel, brush, shampoo, etc.) Bedding (pillow, blanket/sheet or sleeping bag) Beach towel, sunscreen, insect repellant Runners or hiking shoes Flashlight Water bottle Optional: Camera, favourite book Don t Bring: Food (including any snacks) Tobacco, alcohol or other illegal substances Matches, lighters Mouthwash Fireworks of any kind (including fire crackers) Gum or sunflower seeds ipods, cell phones or other electronic gear Pocket knives or other weapons Expensive jewelry Money Clothing and/or swimwear that is immodest or has bad language/pictures on it *Note that the camp/church is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items! MEDICAL INFORMATION MEDICATION All medication must be in the original bottle with the sufficient supply in a Ziploc bag along with clear instructions (on the bottle or written out). No need to pack common non-prescription medications (Advil, Tylenol, etc.) as the Health Centre will have these in stock. Bird River Bible Camp 2019 4

We ask that all medication be taken out of the luggage before your child arrives at the church on the first day of camp as we will be collecting the medication before they get on the bus. All medication will be administered (during the week) by the camp medic, NOT the camper, who will be on site for the duration of your child s stay at camp. THE CAMP MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL All of our Camp Medical Professionals are certified/practicing LPNs or RNs, medical doctors, or paramedics. IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY In case of an emergency, the parents/guardians listed on the camper s application will be contacted first. However, should the parents not be available at the time of the call, a Senior Staff Member will call the Emergency Contacts listed on their application. The nearest hospital to the camp is the Pinawa Hospital, which is a 20-minute drive from the camp. In the event a doctor prescribes medication for your child during his/her stay, the parents/guardians will be contacted and billed for the cost of the prescription. BUNKING ARRANGEMENTS Campers are grouped in cabins based on gender as well as table/cell group at church and age. Campers may request to be in the same cabin with a friend. It is important for both campers to make the request on their application form. We will try to accommodate these requests to the best of our ability. CABIN LEADER TO CAMPER RATIO The following cabin leader to camper ratios are used when staffing cabins. Regardless of camper enrollment, there is a minimum of two cabin leaders in each cabin. High School Camps: Females 1 cabin leader for every 6 campers Males 1 cabin leader for every 4 campers Kids Camps: Females 1 cabin leader for every 4 campers Males 1 cabin leader for every 4 campers Middle School Camps: Females 1 cabin leader for every 4 campers Males 1 cabin leader for every 4 campers SUPERVISION STAFF DURING CAMP The camp is staffed with the Camp Director, Skills Staff (including certified Lifeguards), Camp Medical Professional, and Cabin Leaders. Support Staff include Food Services, Maintenance and Caretaking personnel. Special precautions are taken during water activities and certified lifeguards are on duty at all swim times. Bird River Bible Camp 2019 5

ALL CAMP STAFF Each applicant has been carefully screened by the Church Leadership and hand-picked by our Camp Leadership Team. PHONE CALLS Although we discourage campers from phoning home during their stay at camp (we have previously found it can negatively affect a child's state of homesickness), there may be situations where it is necessary. All camper phone calls are authorized and supervised by Senior Camp Staff. Bird River Bible Camp 2019 6
