A free Park and Ride Service for Glan Clwyd Hospital will start on Monday 13 th October. The shuttle bus scheme will help ease the current parking pressures and traffic congestion on the Glan Clwyd site. The Scheme is aimed mainly at staff, freeing up more spaces at the hospital for patients and visitors, but members of the public coming to the hospital are also welcome to use it. The parking area will be on the former Hotpoint factory site in Bodelwyddan and signposting will direct drivers from the main road/roundabout on the approach to the Hospital. The car park holds up to 250 cars, is floodlit and there will be a security presence during operating hours. The service will be available Monday to Friday each week. Buses will run every fifteen minutes, with the first bus leaving the Hotpoint site at 6:30am and the last bus leaving Glan Clwyd Hospital at 7:35pm. There is NO charge for using the service. The Park and Ride Scheme will run over the winter months. It will be monitored closely and feedback from users used to review and improve our parking facilities for our patients, visitors and staff. All our staff are being encouraged to use the new shuttle service whenever possible, and hence improve the experience for patients and visitors attending the hospital. New Children s project funded by Children in Need North Wales Deaf Association are to receive a grant from Children In Need for a Part-time Deaf Children s Family Officer. The funding will last for three years and the role of the Deaf Children s Family Officer will cover the whole of North Wales. Further details will be available shortly on our website: www.deafassociation.co.uk or if you would like to receive further details, a job description and application form, please send your request to info@deafassociation.co.uk. 7

Ever wondered why some men start growing moustaches in the month of November? It s a campaign to raise funds to promote men s health, specifically prostrate and testicular cancer. Movember was started in Australia back in 2003 and in 2007 the Prostrate Cancer UK charity became the official partner in the UK. The campaign has grown and grown so that last year over 17.5 million was raised in the UK. The money is used for research and to offer advice and support. People taking part in Movember are known as Mo Bros A Mo Bro takes action by changing their appearance through the growth of a new a moustache for the 30 days of November to change the face of men s health. But Movember is more than just an excuse to grow a fine piece of moustachery; it s about having conversations while raising funds and awareness, it s about having fun and doing good. Find out more at: http://uk.movember.com Earlier this year in Wales the cancer charity Tenovus joined forces with Prostate Cancer UK and The Movember Foundation to launch the country s first ManVan. The 38 foot van will bring one-to-one counselling, couples counselling, group support and benefits advice to men living in deprived or hard-to-reach rural areas. 2,600 men are diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer every year in Wales, with prostate cancer incidence rates 25% higher in Wales per head of population compared to the UK overall. Survival rates are improving, however this means there are more men now living with, and beyond, cancer, and coping with the physical and psychological side effects which come with it. To find out more about prostate cancer: www.prostatecanceruk.org There is a video on prostate cancer with sign language through NHS choices http://www.nhs.uk/video/pages/sign-language-guide-prostatecancer.aspx?searchtype=tag To find out more about the ManVan : http://www.tenovus.org.uk/how-we-can-help-you/our-manvan 9
