On Sunday 24 February 2019 at 8:00am LOCATION Race the Rubeena Canal Road, Sale, Vic 3850 CONTACT: Gerard Callinan info@racetherubeena.com.au WEBSITE https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=432256& Guest Speaker Our special Dinner to honour the memory of past Rotary Club President (twice) and Life Member of SSLSC Kevin Maxfield, was made even more special by the presence of his wife Maria and the excellent presentation of our young guest speaker John Robbins. In December 2018, John enjoyed the adventure of a lifetime as part of the Young Endeavour crew. John was sponsored by SSLSC to be part of the youth crew looking to develop and sharpen his leadership potential. The ship sailed out of Sydney heads in 35 knot winds with a three-metre swell very challenging conditions for the inexperienced youth team. John s affinity to the water, after years in surf lifesaving, proved invaluable experience and he was the only youth member to not get sea sick! Highlights of the trip included climbing the rigging (see photo), taking charge of the ship for 24 hours without professional crew support and exploring the Hawksbury River. The key lesson for John was the importance of teamwork to ensure the success and safety of the mission.
