Orlando Hospitality Updates Legoland Florida ready to build themed hotel Richard Bilbao Orlando Business Journal Legoland Florida is staying busy to remain in front of Orlando tourists' minds. The theme park pulled the construction permit for a new 152-room on-site hotel in February and site work will start shortly, said Quen Wilson, of the Polk County Office of Planning and Development. Brickman Specifics are unknown, but estimates show it could be more than 100,000 square feet and cost more than $26 million. The project is expected to create 250 temporary construction jobs and another 250 permanent hotel positions. It is slated to open sometime in 2015. It will provide Legoland Florida Bright House Networks Enterprise Solutions Ryan Sangster Tim Fielding
with a themed hotel that will help it capture multiday visitors and further increase spending at the park, nearby shops and restaurants. This will be the fifth Legoland-themed resort hotel. Legoland Florida also is capitalizing on the huge success of The Lego Movie by hosting a Lego Movie Celebration event that will run for four weekends, starting March 8. The movie - which held the No. 1 spot for three weeks until falling to No. 3 this week - has pulled in more than $300 million worldwide, according to Entertainment Weekly, making it "the biggest release so far this year." Largest, most-expensive commercial project started in 2013 Richard Bilbao Orlando Business Journal Cabana Bay Beach Resort Description: The 1,800-room resort is Universal Orlando Resort's newest addition to its hotel portfolio. Address: 6550 Adventure Way, Orlando 32819 Contractor: Balfour Beatty Construction Group Completion: Spring 2014 Estimated construction jobs: 858 Project cost: $85.8 million What this project means to the industry: "This project is indicative that tourism has rebounded and growth will be sustained through the foreseeable future," said Mark Wylie, president and CEO, Associated Builders & Contractors of Central Florida. "Universal has invested substantially in entertainment venues like Harry Potter and Transformers for the same reason. It appears Universal is confident in Orlando's ability to continue to attract families and business travelers, and in the ability for the transportation infrastructure to handle the growth."
