GPMC NEWS May 2014 Page 6 A Mustang Restoration Story By Flatbed Dan Barth When I joined the club at the April meeting, a guest named Holly tried to sell her 1968 Mustang Coupe, her first car. Now, that is a story. I love stories. One of the members up front said, hey, that guy with the snowstorm and a Flatbed Mustang should go look at it. He was right and that's all the encouragement I needed. This was her first car, driven 70K miles and then put into storage in 1988. She also has a red 1967 Mustang convertible that was her parents and is not for sale. Holly told me her plan was to sell the blue Mustang and spend the proceeds to get the red convertible back on the road. To me, the blue car looked great topside, but I could not have two BLUE, non-running Mustangs at my house...she obviously loved Mustangs. How can I help? If I help, will you make sure you contact me first if you go to sell the convertible? ok, ok, ok... What if I take pictures, and we write the ad together via email and phone, and then I post it on Craigslist? I posted it at 11 PM and by midnight had 4 inquiries which is a good sign... Anyway, she sold it to the first guy (who really owns a flatbed). It sold for less than she was asking, but she told me, it was very important to her that it goes to a good home. She told me the week before, she had been really stressed as she had to move the cars as the building had been sold. She had no idea what she was going to do. Now, the blue one is sold to a loving owner, and the buyer will flatbed her convertible to a shop to get it running so she can finally drive it this summer. All of this came about because of the club. Holly and I found the club through the website, www.gpmc.org. AND if it were not for the club and its welcoming members, I never would have met her and none of this would have happened who knows what would have happened to the Mustangs? Now, you know the rest of the story... P.S. to the story from Ken Barker: Dan took it upon himself to help Holly out. He did everything, from photos, to running the ad on Craigslist, to negotiating the best deal for her. It's inspiring to know there are members like Dan in the club.
