East Somerset District Scouts EXMOOR Hiking Weekend 2019 Friday 8th Feb Sunday 10th Feb 2019 Please encourage all your Scouts to take part in this event, it is not only a hike it is also a map reading exercise that will enhance their skills and confidence in map reading. Please note if you are unable to make a full team please let us know as we may be able to make teams up from other groups. Area of Hike: Exmoor (map OL 9) No in team: Cost: Personal Equipment: Team Equipment: Important Minimum 4 (if you have less we need to know to make teams up) 15 per scout 10 per leader See Attached Sheet See Attached Sheet Leaders and Helpers are all welcome to hike with their Scouts if they feel it is required Details of Event Time - Arrive: NO EARLIER THAN 5pm (Friday). Finish: by 4:00pm (Sunday) Venue - Sparkhayes Campsite, Porlock, TA24 8NE Other Information Friday: Arrive at campsite in the evening Saturday: Scouts will spend the day on the hills and in the woodland. Sunday: Scouts will pack up and then have another day on the moor. Leaders please ensure all your Scouts are adequately equipped for camping and hiking at this time of year including clothing, sleeping bag, food, etc. It can be extremely cold and wet on the hills in February Meals can be taken either in small patrols or your whole group together. Home Contact You are responsible for arranging your own home contact and informing me of the name and number of this person on the attached form (please make sure this person also has the Emergency Contact details below). Please make sure that all parents are aware that if they need to contact their child/ren IN AN EMERGENCY during the activity they MUST ONLY call the Emergency Contact (details of which will be available after Christmas. Please fill in the attached forms and return to me (details on reply slip) by Sunday 27th January 2019 with full payment and health forms (for all attendees this includes all adult help). Exmoor Hiking Weekend Kit List Recommended Personal Kit list Personal equipment that will be checked for before departure Group Equipment Socks x 2 Underwear Trousers Shirt Gaiters Jumper / Fleece Food + Sweets Small Torch, spare bulb & batteries Toilet Roll Spare Laces Spare Change of Clothes Carry Mat Sleeping Bag Wash Kit / Towel Spare Plastic Bags Tea Towel Mess tins / plates / cutlery Money (change) Hike Boots Waterproof Jacket Waterproof Trousers Hat / Gloves Emergency Rations Water Bottle Personal First Aid Kit (to include plasters, triangle bandage, safety pins,, antiseptic wipes) Survival Bag Whistle Foil blanket Day bag for use on the hikes Tent (will not be carried by scouts) Stoves Stove fuel (in suitable container) Matches Cooking utensils Map + spare in sealed plastic bag Compass Food Scouts who do not have the suitable equipment to ensure their safety over the hike will not be allowed to start the hike. The district team will remove any Scout from the hike if it is felt that they are not suitably equipped for the conditions.
