Campbell River Daybreak Rotary Club Making "Service" Fun July 15, 2014 51 Rotarians were present, 4 did makeups for 74.3% Daybreak Rotary is a family of volunteers dedicated to community and international service. Bruce Izard s Rotary Moment Bruce s Rotary Moment focused on two occasions. The first centered on his visit with John. As he spoke of their fun-filled shopping excursion at Fairway Market, he toured the room with John s picture reminding us of his 20 year dedication to Rotary. Next he spoke of the great fun with Henry, Gabe, school kids, and of course, soccer. Bruce concluded by commenting that Daybreak Rotary is truly a club where we make service fun. Announcements/Reminders Gabe is leaving us on the 22nd of July. As such, Carmen and Joe have graciously stepped up to host a going away party on the 21st of July. We don t have 100% of the details worked out just yet but it will be fun none the less. In order to get our planning done, we need to know some numbers. Dinner at 5:00pm and activities after Erica heard something about a water fight??? Please RSVP by the July 17 th to Erica@channowosadboates.ca Rory announced the Seafood Fest to raise funds for Polio Plus and other international activities will be held October 18 Gabe s last Rotary breakfast Les is leading a Pub Run this Friday to sell Duck Dip tickets. It is a great opportunity to sell Rotary and your tickets. Please join him at the Royal Coachman 5:00. As I recall, last year around 17 books were sold. There is a Duck Dip meeting this Wednesday, 5:30, Royal Coachman This is our week at Save-on-Foods to sell tickets Fun-Fines brought to you by Sandra Parkes Glen paid as Mike did text Sandra whereas he only phoned Glen Barry and Joe were fined for even thinking of flying THIS morning Leah was fined for her choice of attire while Ron was fined as he never resists the opportunity for a quip Brian was fined as Sandra was proud he got up early A group fine was given to those who foolishly golfed during yesterday s heat wave The group fine was for those who were unable to hit the high notes in the Star Spangled Banner Happy/Sad Bucks Too many members to mention (male) sold tickets at the incorrect location and fined themselves Erica announced that Julie s baby daughter is named Willa Fran is pleased that her step-daughter is moving from Prince George to Parksville Irwin is very proud that his daughter has left for 6 weeks volunteering at the hospital in Naivasha Dan was sorry to inform that his dad died last week; it is a difficult time but the family will get through it Thanh was pleased to say her daughter is now working on a farm outside of Nanaimo William commented on the connections possible via technology. While he was chatting with someone in Canberra, Australia his son was skyping with a friend in Langley P2

District Governor Michael Procter Introduced by Assistant District Governor Robert Buckley, District Governor Procter spoke on the major focuses of Rotary International: The Rotary Foundation, Polio Plus and the importance of membership. We seem to be static at 1.2 million so encouraged members to invite their friends to join. He also commented on the decline of the Youth Exchange Program and how delighted he is to see it is alive and well with Daybreak Rotary. He encouraged everyone to attend The District Conference to be held June 19, 2015 in Nanaimo. Daybreak Rotary s Newest Member: Shawn Cowan Membership chair Cathy Voth inducted Daybreak Rotary s newest member. Sponsored by Craig Gillis, Shawn will be mentored by Barry Watchorn. P3
