Our base camp gear list is designed for your convenience and is to be used as a starting point of witch to assemble your gear needs. Some of you may think this is over kill and some may thing were missing items, this list is simply to spark a thought and is expected changed to best suit your needs and those attending camp. The Base Camp List was assembled for the requirements of a fall hunt in the Rocky Mountains, during a time that it can rain or snow or both and can be expected to have temperature swings from the 90's to below zero. Again the list can be adjusted to your style and gear needs as it pertains to the animals your hunting to the geographical locations that you hunt. Tent - Be sure your tent is completely set-up, sealed or repaired, account for all correct rope and rope lengths, account for tent stakes, tent tarps, stove stack and guide wires. Wood Stove - be sure all parts and pieces of the wood stove are accounted and in good working order. You should have the stove grate, pre-fitted stove pipe, damper stove screws, ash shovel. Cooking Stove - Be sure your stove is in good working order. with plenty of fuel along with the means of lighting it. If needed account for the stove stand, cooking utensils, pots and pans. Toilet - this is a must unless your alone and even then it is common curtsy and sanitary. The law in some areas requires you bury sewage or take it with you. Abide by the law, and specific distances from trail's, river or lake. Most sporting goods stores sell a portable combination shower/toilet shelter and a snap on five-gallon toilet seat, be sure you have all of the rope and stakes to anchor the shelter down. Chain Saw - Be sure your chainsaw is in good working order and sharp. Remember bar chain oil, fuel oil mix, and fuel. This is very import if you're depending upon your wood stove for heat. General Maintenance - Change oil and air filters top off all fluids, check brakes, inspect tires, tire pressure, tire tread, radiator and all that may have worked loose. Fuel - Add fuel treatment. The cold temperature on the mountain could much colder than back home. Flat Tire - Account for all that is required in changing your tire on the mountain. Uneven terrain can be hard to find and your truck can be taller then most, wood block can even things out or extend a jacks limited reach. Tire Chains - Snow and muddy conditions may require chains. Be sure the chains fit your tires also account for all tire chain tension chains/cords, tension springs and S - hooks. Tool Box - Your tool box should include all the basic tools and specialty tools required in changing a fan belt. Extra Keys - Loosing or Locking your keys in the truck can mean a broken window.
