5 s Romania Roman Orthodox & Count Dracula Join us on an action-packed five-day tour as we travel deep into Transylvania, a land of rugged beauty, medieval towns, volcanic springs, caves and gorges and the home of Count Dracula. Beside the unspoiled, breath-taking Carpathian Mountains, we will discover the different religious and historic heritage, beliefs and crafts of the local communities. Combining vibrant Bucharest with the charm and beauty of the Carpathian Mountains, Romania makes a great destination for schools looking for a great value experience. t: 01392 660056 e: schools@thestc.co.uk w: www.thestc.co.uk

Recommended tour itinerary 1 Arrive Bucharest Welcome to Romania! Fly from London to Bucharest s Otopeni airport where you will be met by our experienced team and, if time allows, transferred straight to Revolution Square. This area has witnessed most of the important events in Romanian history. Afterwards we transfer to our first hosts in the small Saxon Village of Vulcan, nestled deep in Transylvania. Here we stay in a guesthouse and after a welcome briefing, we sample our first three course Romanian dinner. 2 Bears & Priests This morning we rise early to visit the bear sanctuary in Zarnesti. The sanctuary is home to a few of the oldest bear species in Romania which have been rescued from captivity and are sadly not able to be released back into the wild. There are 76 European brown and Tibetan black bears living here. After our visit we walk back to the village to enjoy lunch. Later this afternoon we will visit a 13th century Saxon church to meet with a local priest. The priest is also a wellknown community leader and will deliver a talk on the history of the local religion and culture. 3 Roman Orthodox Today we travel to a different mountain village and check in to our new guesthouse in Moieciu de Sus. On route we stop to visit the thirteenth century Rasnov Citadel. This impressive citadel stands impressively atop a hill, built by the Teutonic Knights to protect the once residents from Tatar invasions. To this day it offers beautiful views over Bucegi mountains and Piatra Craiului Massif. Next we ll visit the famous Bran Castle and learn about the famous Count Dracula. This afternoon we ll visit an Orthodox Priest who will share with us stories about the majority of the populations sacred faith we can even participate in the local church service! Tonight we finish the day with a traditional Romanian home cooked meal.

4 Carpathian Mountains It s time to stretch our legs! Today we set off on a day trek to the Carpathian Mountains. Our destination is the spectacular Bucegi Mountains and the route we take winds through picture post-card landscapes, green meadows and traditional mountain villages. Approx. 18km, 5hrs walking. This evening we leave our new found friends and countryside behind to travel back to the nation s capital, Bucharest. We will venture in to the city this evening for dinner and a show! 5 Bucharest to London This morning we will enjoy breakfast at a local café before taking in some of Bucharest s top sights such as the Orthodox Stavropoulos Monastery, built in 1724, Palace of Parliament or National Museum. Finally, we board our flight back to the UK.
