FOCAPO / CPC 2017 FAST FACTS Registration Hours: January 8 11:00 am 5:30 pm Outside Catalina Ballroom January 8 6:00 pm 8:30 pm Outside Kiva A January 9-11 7:00 am 5:00 pm Outside Kiva A The registration desk will be staffed during the conference presentation times. The onsite manager, Robin Craven will be available to answer questions throughout the conference. Location of Meetings All FOCAPO / CPC 2017 conference activities are in the Kiva Ballroom. The Kiva Ballroom is located outside the main Loews building across from the main entrance and right beside the Flying V restaurant. The poster sessions are in Kiva Ballroom A. The joint sessions are in Kiva Ballroom B. Conference Format The idea of this conference is to have FOCAPO and CPC presentations in parallel until the mid-afternoon refreshment break. The FOCAPO presentations are in Kiva A and the CPC presentations are in Kiva B. Please feel free to attend whichever presentation you desire. Joint Sessions After the mid-afternoon break, Monday Wednesday, joint FOCAPO/CPC presentations will address these three topics below. The joint sessions are held in Kiva B. Emerging Application Areas Smart Manufacturing and Energy Systems Integration of Scheduling and Control (with panel discussion) Enabling the Transition from Research to Practice (with panel discussion) Welcome Reception Sunday, January 8 The FOCAPO / CPC 2017 conference will have a welcome reception on Sunday evening from 8:30 pm 10:00 pm on the Kiva Patio (weather permitting). All conference attendees and pre-paid guests are invited. The after-dinner reception will include light hors d oeuvres and a hosted bar with beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. The hors d oeuvre selection is not intended to be a replacement for dinner, so please make dinner plans accordingly. Continental Breakfasts Monday, from 7:00 am 8:15 am, and Tuesday through Thursday from 7:00 am 8:30 am, the conference is providing a continental breakfast for all attendees (sorry, no guests). The breakfast will be in the Flying V restaurant. The restaurant seats 100 and weather permitting, there will be patio seating outside the restaurant. If there is inclement weather, then to-go 2
boxes will be available and you are encouraged to take your breakfast back into the general session rooms (Kiva A or Kiva B). The menu will be limited to coffee, juices, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereals and an assortment of bakery items. If you desire a more substantial breakfast, the Canyon Café on the main level of the hotel opens at 6:00 am. Poster Sessions (Contributed Papers) The poster presentations will be in Kiva A. A detailed listing of the poster presentations is listed later in this program. Poster Session A: Monday, January 9 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Poster Session B: Tuesday, January 10 from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Poster presenters will have time to place their poster prior to the sessions. Pushpins will be provided. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks will be available during both poster sessions. Presenters are asked to remove their posters immediately after the session. Posters that are not removed, will be taken down by hotel staff and discarded. Lunches Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12:00 pm 1:15 pm, the conference is providing lunch for all attendees (sorry, no guests). Lunch will be in the Flying V restaurant. The restaurant seats 100 and weather permitting, there will be patio seating outside the restaurant. If there is inclement weather, then to-go boxes will be available and you are encouraged to take your lunch back into the general session rooms (Kiva A or Kiva B). FOCAPO / CPC 2017 Conference Banquet Wednesday, January 11 The conference reception & banquet will be on Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the Kiva Ballroom A & B. The evening will be casual. There will be reception begins at 7:00 pm on the Kiva Patio. All conference attendees and pre-paid guests are invited. Brainstorming Session Key Research Challenges Thursday, January 12 The Thursday joint session will be a facilitated brainstorming activity to identify the key research challenges for the next five years. The outcome of this session will ultimately lead to a white paper for publication and distribution to the funding agencies. Please think about these challenges the during the conference week. To facilitate the process, post-it notes will be provided in your registration packet so you can summarize your ideas as they come to you during the sessions. We will be clustering these ideas around the themes that emerge, and use them to jump-start Thursday's session. We encourage you to be actively engaged and have fun with this activity. 3
Internet Access FOCAPO / CPC 2017 conference participants will have complimentary Internet access in the public areas and in the sleeping rooms. There should be limited Internet access in the meeting rooms. Transportation to and from Tucson International Airport (TUS) Tucson International Airport is about 19 miles (around 35 minutes) from the Loews. The Loews does not offer airport shuttles. The best method to reach the Loews from the Tucson airport is Arizona Stagecoach (www.azstagecoach.com). Reservations: 1-520-889-1000 or Toll Free: 877-782-4355. They are located INSIDE the Tucson International Airport. Note, online reservations must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Taxi's are also available and cost approximately $55.00 one way. Dining Information The Loews has two dining establishments. Times are subject to change. Flying V Bar & Grill. Dinner only. Opens at 5:30 pm. Southwestern menu. Canyon Café 6:00 am to 2:00 pm. Breakfast & Lunch. Modern American cuisine. Vista Barista 5:30 am to 2:00 pm. Serves light fare. Cascade Lounge 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm. Drinks and light fare. Lakeside Spa & Fitness Center The Loews offers a complimentary health club access. Note the Spa hours vary slightly. They are 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Weather The weather in Tucson in January is usually warm during the day with highs in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Showers are not common, but come prepared. Evenings can get chilly, even cold, so bring comfortable walking shoes, jackets and long pants. Sabino Canyon Less than 3 miles from the Loews lays Sabino Canyon. Sabino Canyon offers spectacular views, a variety of wildlife, and dozens of marked trails that range from easy to advanced. The easiest hike is the one that takes you 3.8 miles up the canyon. Other favorites include the Telephone Line Trail and Bear Canyon. Following the route of an old phone line that went up the mountain to the Palisades Ranger Station, the Phone Line Trail affords a view of Sabino Canyon seldom seen by the casual visitor. At its highest, the 41/2-mile trail takes you about 400 feet above the canyon, reducing to miniature the shuttles along the paved road and giving you an eagle's-eye view of the activities. Hotel offers a daily complimentary shuttle to Sabino Canyon. Shuttle runs on a first come first serve basis and can hold up to 5 people. See the bell desk for transportation to Sabino Canyon.
