GUESS WHAT OR WHO 4 WATERS Manus: Amy Bruford Producent: Claes Nordenskiöld Sändningsdatum: Längd: 9'20 "Guess What or Who Theme Song Introduction" (Red Hot Chili Peppers "I Like Dirt" and Public Enemy "Fight the Power") Leigh Norén: Hello and welcome to the fourth programme in our quiz series GUESS WHAT OR WHO My name is Leigh, and in this programme we'll check out Oceans, Lakes and Rivers Waters all over the world. You'll hear someone from our panel speak about a specific lake or river your job is to figure out which. Sam Hincks: Hi! As always, our panel consists of Sam Kaitlin. Kaitlin Nordenskiöld: Hello. and Solange. Solange Musoke: Hi. So if you're ready, we'll get started. If you have the worksheet in front of you, you can see that you have four alternatives to choose from. If you don't have the worksheet, just write down your answers on a piece of paper. We'll give you the correct answers at the end of the programme. We have eight questions, and here's the first. Which river is Sam talking about? This North American river is very famous. It's one of the world's longest rivers and it's been seen in many movies and starred in books by authors such as Mark Twain. It runs from Montana in the north down to the Gulf of Mexico in the south, passing through cities such as St. Louis, Memphis and New Orleans. Which river did Sam describe? Was it The Rio Grande, The Colorado River, The Mississippi-Missouri or the Yukon? 1

Bob Dylan "Mississippi" Time for the second question. Here's Kaitlin describing one of the world's oceans. The question is: which one? This ocean lies next to the African continent. It is the world's third largest ocean and Magellan the explorer left this ocean when he rounded the Cape of Good Hope on his way back to Europe in 1522. The famous paradise islands, The Seychelles, are also located here. I think Kaitlin was trying to confuse you there Your choices are: The Atlantic Ocean, The Pacific Ocean, The Indian Ocean, or The Arctic Ocean. Madonna "Shanti/Ashtangi " Here's question three. Solange will give us a few hints about a specific sea. Guess which Many people see this as a huge freshwater lake, because it does look like one, but it is really a saltwater sea. It borders Iran to the south, but four other countries also surround it, and at least one large city called Baku. In one area this sea is close to 1,000 metres deep. A very deep sea You have the choice between The Caspian Sea, The Black Sea, The Baltic Sea, and The Mediterranean Sea. Love Sculpture "Sabre Dance" Quickly on to question four. Sam will describe one of the Great Lakes between Canada and the United States. This is the largest of the Great Lakes. It also lies the farthest north. There isn't any real big city on its shores nothing like Chicago, Detroit or Buffalo, instead the Canadian town of Thunder Bay and the American city of Duluth are probably the biggest cities here. This is actually the world's largest freshwater lake. Which lake did Sam talk about? Was it Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario or Lake Superior? TLC "Waterfalls" We're on to number five halfway through. Once again it's time for 2

Kaitlin who's going to describe a huge river The mouth of this river opens up into the Atlantic Ocean. It s very impressive, but it's still less than half as long as the world's longest river. Almost the entire river is located in one country Venezuela. Kaitlin giving some clues about a river. You can choose between The Nile, The Amazon, Orinoco, or Paraguay. Enya "Orinoco Flow" Time for question six. Here's Solange with another lake. This huge lake is surrounded by three countries: Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. On its northern shores is a city called Entebbe with a large international airport. This lake is the world's second largest freshwater lake, and it was named in honour of no, I'm not going to make it that easy Which lake was Solange describing: Lake Titicaca, Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika or Lake Malawi? Ali Farka Toure "Diaraby" And this is question number seven. Sam takes us out on a European river. But which one? In a way, the mouth of this river is really in Holland, but by then the river is called something else. Like all rivers around the world, it serves as an important means of transportation. Barges bring all kinds of goods through Europe on its waters. This river reaches all the way down to Switzerland, runs along the French border and all the way through Germany. Which river was Sam talking about? The Rhine, The Seine, The Thames or The Shannon? Vanessa Paradis "Tandem" Now the last and eighth waterway. Here's Kaitlin with a body of water in Asia. This body of water is located north of the equator, north of the island and country of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. On one side is India and on the other is Burma. Some of the large cities around it are Rangoon, 3

Calcutta, and Madras. What was Kaitlin talking about? Was it The Persian Gulf, The Arabian Sea, The Bay of Bengal, or South China Sea? Shankar Paper Nut That was it. Now Kaitlin, Sam, Solange, and I will give you all the correct answers. Here we go number one was "Guess What or Who Theme Song Ending" (Eminem "The Way I Am") The Mississippi-Missouri river. Two was The Indian Ocean. and the correct answer to question three was The Caspian Sea. The answer to question four was Lake Superior, the world's largest freshwater lake. and number five Orinoco, the large river in Venezuela. The answer to question six was Lake Victoria. Number seven number seven was The Rhine. And finally question eight, It was a difficult one, I think, the answer was The Bay of Bengal. Now we hope you've learnt or will learn the name of a bunch of waterways 4

rivers lakes and oceans. Thanks for listening. Bye. Bye-bye. Goodbye. Bye, now. "Guess What or Who Theme Song Ending" (Eminem "The Way I Am" and Red Hot Chili Peppers "I Like Dirt") 5
