Scots-Irish, Kilts & Celts 9 Nights in 2017 Day by Day Itinerary Day 1 - Welcome to Ireland This morning, we land in Dublin Airport. Once through passport control, you collect your bags and head out into the arrivals area where your very friend Tour Director will meet you. We then get acquainted with our local surroundings and enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of Dublin s Fair City. As we drive through the main thoroughfare we see historic buildings like the GPO (General Post Office) on O Connell Street and Trinity College, housing the Book of Kells, we see the vast Georgian Squares, such as Merrion Square where Oscar Wilde s house can still be found (today owned by the American College). After a stop for lunch, we visit Dublin Castle. For over 800 years, Dublin Castle has been at the heart of Irish history. The site has stood witness to some pivotal events throughout the history of Ireland and has been in continuous occupation since its establishment in 1204 AD. We then check into our downtown hotel and tonight, we enjoy dinner together at the hotel. Dinner & Overnight: Dublin Hotel Day 2 - Dublin s Fair City This morning after a hearty Irish breakfast, it s time to see Dublin, your way, in your own time and minus the sore feet! Today enjoy a freedom ticket for the Hop On Hop Off bus around the city. You can choose between 33 stops in the city and take in sights such as Trinity College and the Book of Kells, Guinness Storehouse, St. Patrick s Cathedral, Dublin Castle or the Old Jameson Distillery, to name but a few. Tonight, you are free to enjoy one of Dublin s man restaurants: your Tour Director will provide you with suggestions. Overnight: Dublin Hotel Day 3 - Dublin to Donegal This morning after a hearty Irish breakfast, we bid farewell to the capital as we drive north westwards to County Donegal. We will travel through the heart of Ireland and meandering through the beautiful countryside of County Fermanagh. This is an unspoilt region famous for its lakes and 1

cave lands. There is a diverse range of habitats and landscapes rich in wildlife in Fermanagh. We continue to County Donegal and to the spectacular Slieve League Cliffs. From these cliffs, there is an amazing sea vista and one can see the counties of Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo to the south. Straight ahead is the Atlantic Ocean as far as the eye can see. Rising at almost 2000 ft. from the Atlantic, Slieve League is one of the highest cliffs in. We will then make our way back to the town of Donegal where we will check in to our hotel. We will meet for dinner later and enjoy the evening together. Dinner & Overnight: Donegal Hotel Day 4 - The Giants Causeway and the Glens of Antrim This morning after breakfast we depart County Donegal and travel into Northern Ireland where we visit the Giant s Causeway, an amazing geologic formation of approx. 40,000 basalt stone some as tall as 130 feet, and mostly hexagonal in shape. As Northern Ireland s premiere landmark, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you ll be free to decide for yourself whether the Causeway is a result of accelerated cooling of lava outflows 60 million years ago. Or is it the work of the legendary Irish giant, Finn MacCool, in his attempts to a) woo a distant lady giants, or b) meet a Scottish giant in battle to determine who the stronger giant was? We continue our journey via the 9 Glens of Antrim, known locally simply as The Glens. It comprises of nine Glens (Valleys) that radiate from the Antrim Plateau to the coast. We arrive in Belfast and check into our hotel and enjoy dinner together this evening. Dinner & Overnight: Belfast Hotel Day 5 - Belfast City Sightseeing This morning after breakfast, we enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour of this fascinating city, where the peace process has brought a revival of optimism to this city rich in Victorian elegance and blossoming with culture. We ll see Belfast s compact center on Donegal Square and its iconic City Hall, in the very heart of Belfast. Our drive will continue through the West Belfast Protestant neighborhood of 2

the Shankill Road; and the Catholic neighborhood of the Falls Road. Vivid murals painted on building walls, express a panoply of feelings that run deeply on both sides of the conflict. Though these neighborhood names were much in the news during The Troubles, the Peace Wall gate between them, now stands open. This afternoon, we will take a visit to the Titanic Belfast, a state of the art interactive museum which provides an unforgettable visitor experience. It tells the story of RMS Titanic, from her conception and launch into the River Lagan in 1911, to the tragic end of her maiden voyage a year later. It was here at Titanic Quarter (the former Queen s Island) in Belfast Harbor, the ship was built. Enjoy the exhibits at your own pace. You are free for the remainder of the afternoon and tonight, we enjoy dinner together at our hotel. Dinner & Overnight: Belfast Hotel Day 6 - Over the Sea to Scotland and Loch Lomond After enjoying breakfast, we bid farewell to Ireland and travel across the Irish Sea to bonnie Scotland. We arrive in Cairnryan and make our way to the famous Loch Lomond, renowned for its unsurpassed beauty. Loch Lomond is the centerpiece of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. It is the largest expanse of freshwater in Great Britain. The Trossachs, with its lochs, glens and heather covered mountains this was a favorite destination of Sir Walter Scott, who used the location as the backdrop for his novel Rob Roy and poem The Lady of the Lake. We check into our hotel an 18th century country inn near Loch Lomond where we enjoy dinner together, followed by some Scottish entertainment. Dinner & Overnight: Loch Lomond Hotel Day 7 - Stirling and Perth This morning after a full Scottish breakfast, we will make our way to Glengoyne Distillery. This distillery is located in the southern Highlands and has been producing an exceptional single malt scotch whiskey for nearly 200 years. It is one of the few distilleries producing whiskey in this part of Scotland today. Knowledge is passed from generation to generation, nothing is written down. They focus on distilling slowly to create the best whiskey possible. Leaving Glengoyne, we will travel to the city of Stirling where we will visit Stirling Castle. The Castle is a great symbol of Scottish independence and a source of national pride. Knights, nobles and foreign ambassadors once flocked to the Royal Court at Stirling Castle to revel in Castles grandeur. The castle was the favored residence of the Scottish royals. This promises to be an interesting and 3

fascinating visit. We will continue to the city of Perth, a former capital of Scotland. Perth is the main administrative, cosmopolitan center for the beautiful, surrounding 2,000 square miles of Perthshire, Perth sits on Scotland s longest River, the Tay. Perth s history spans over 800 years and it has always been one of the most important political, judicial and commercial centers in Scotland. We will check in to our hotel and we will enjoy dinner together this evening. Dinner & Overnight: Perth Hotel Day 8 - To Edinburgh This morning after a scrumptious Scottish breakfast, we will visit the infamous Scone Palace. Scone Palace has a full history. It was the capital of the Piets Trives some fifteen hundred years ago. Since then, it has been the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of the Kings of Scots including Macbeth and Robert the Bruce. It is certainly a palace of splendor, containing paintings, antiques and rare artifacts. For the afternoon we will make our way to St. Andrews. This town in Scotland was first mentioned in The Dark Ages hearlds, with its earliest inhabitants being farmers and fishermen. Their lifestyles were transformed in the medieval era with the arrival of monks, academic, merchants and armies. Although the boundaries of St. Andrews have stretched to the south and to the west, the historic core remains much as it would have looked 400 hundred years ago. St. Andrews also boasts one of the world s best small universities, which was founded in 1413. It is the third oldest in the English speaking world. There is of course the spectacular golf course, but St. Andrews is also a center for learning, history, culture and art. We end our day arriving into one of s most historic and cultural cities. We check into our hotel and the evening is free for you to explore. Overnight: Edinburgh Hotel Day 9 - City Sightseeing This morning our guide will point out the principal sights of this capital city on our Edinburgh city tour with visits to The Old Town & The New Town. Edinburgh, the Royal and ancient capital of Scotland, is one of the most beautiful cities in. The Royal Mile with its cobbled streets is at the core of Medieval Old Town and leads from the Palace of Holyroodhouse (HM The Queen s official residence in Scotland) to Edinburgh Castle, Grassmarket is where the infamous murderers, Burke and Hare, had their lair. The 18th Century New Town boasts gracious Georgian terraces, grand squares and crescents. George Street has numerous designer stores so you can shop til you drop. We will visit Edinburgh Castle, which contains the Scottish Crown Jewels 4

and the Stone of Scone. This evening you are free to enjoy our last evening in Scotland. Overnight: Edinburgh Hotel Day 10 - Homeward Bound Pack your bags and head for the airport where you will board your flight for home. Carry on your photos and memories of a wonderful trip to the Emerald Isle and Bonnie Bonnie Scotland home with you 5
