SATURDAY 4 th NOVEMBER BONFIRE NIGHT 2017 MIDSUMMER COMMON INFORMATION FOR DISABLED PEOPLE PROGRAMME Fun Fair Firework Display Lighting of Bonfire 6pm - 10pm 7.00pm 7.15pm Provided by: Organised by:

DISABLED FACILITIES GENERAL INFORMATION This free display attracts approximately 20,000 people. Most people arrive immediately before and leave immediately after the display, at which time the Common and surrounding roads do become very congested. Please allow plenty of time for your journey and arrive early. Enclosed is a plan of the Common showing the layout of the site and the concrete paths that cross it. STEWARDS Stewards wearing bright yellow or orange fluorescent jackets will be patrolling the site. Please ask them if you need any information or assistance. CAR PARKING FACILITIES FOR DISABLED PEOPLE Parking for disabled people will be available at Jesus College. Access is via Victoria Avenue entrance and spaces must be occupied before the road closure comes into operation as crowds build up shortly after 6.30pm. After 6.30pm it will not be possible to drive to the car park. Exit will be via Jesus Lane. These spaces are limited and available to Blue Badge holders only.

After road closures, or when these spaces have been filled, the following car parks are recommended: Grafton Centre East and Queen Anne Terrace. ROAD CLOSURES Victoria Avenue, Trafalgar Road, Trafalgar Street, Fair Street, New Square, Maids Causeway between Four Lamps Roundabout and just west of Brunswick Gardens, and Jesus Lane and Kings Street between Four Lamps Roundabout and Manor Street will be closed between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, as crowds build up. There will be no access for vehicles -including residents, blue badge holders or taxis - for the duration of the road closures. Customers leaving Park Street car park will be allowed to drive through Short Street or Bridge Street to avoid closed roads. There will be no left turn onto Jesus Lane for vehicles exiting Jesus College. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE TOILETS The permanent toilets located in a block at the entrance to the Common on Victoria Road are wheelchair accessible. Additional temporary toilets, including a wheelchair accessible toilet are also provided and will be located near to the permanent toilet block. A wheelchair accessible toilet will be located at the covered viewing area for disabled people.

SITE HQ & ST JOHN AMBULANCE The site HQ and St John Ambulance are located together on the Victoria Avenue side of the Common opposite the main firework arena. For the duration of the display, additional St John Ambulance crew shall be positioned at either corner of the firework arena beside the river. COVERED RAISED PLATFORM FOR DISABLED PEOPLE People may watch the display from their favourite or most convenient location. Spaces for 40 people including carers, are available on a first come first served basis, in a covered raised platform for disabled people. This marquee is located between the site HQ and entrance to the Common at Victoria Road/Four Lamps. Access is via a ramp. This platform will be stewarded and a wheelchair accessible toilet provided. UNCOVERED DESIGNATED VIEWING AREA FOR DISABLED PEOPLE An uncovered designated viewing area for disabled people is located on the grass close to the fireworks between the firework arena and the fairground. The number of places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Access is by via temporary pathway from the tarmac path. Please note that this

area of the Common does become very congested. This area is also stewarded. HAZARDS After rain Midsummer Common is prone to becoming waterlogged and muddy. This makes it particularly difficult for wheelchair users off the paths. SAFETY Do not bring fireworks or sparklers. Whilst every precaution will be taken to ensure the safety of spectators, stewards and St John Ambulance will be on site to deal with and record any accident or injury. Please dress to suit the weather conditions on the night. FURTHER INFORMATION: www.cambridgelivetrust.co.uk
