Mecklenburg County UCC Meeting January 2019 Meeting opened by Chair, Roger Richards. Safety information provided by Co-Chair, Sam Gonzalez. Self-introductions around the room. North Carolina 811 presentation given by Tami Stout. Guest speaker, Greg Shelton with Horack Talley Law Firm, spoke with the UCC about standard of care. Mr. Shelton writes a blog called constructionlawcarolinas. City of Charlotte is no longer marking storm water. General discussion about utilities marking tickets with a code 55 and not being on site when the contractor arrives. Damages- City of Charlotte Water-a large number of private service lines have been struck. There is a lot of confusion about what the responsibility of the City is and what customer responsibility is. Over thirty hits and sewer service hits. The problem arises when people try to make repairs to the City s service and use material that is not acceptable. CDOT & Charlotte Water are in discussion about road work/installation of new water lines in South End (Tremont/Clanton Road areas). Replace 12 with 24-26 water lines. They are only in preliminary discussion at this time. Discussion about removal of paint once work has been completed. Next meeting February 27. Meeting location TBD
