December 2016 Volume 51 No 12 Steve Doerschlag s 1954 Coupe
December 2016 Page 2 Editor s Corner Goodbye 2016 and Hello to 2017. This was the year to remember with all the great Studebaker get-togethers we have attended. This past year had a full list of activates from the Eaton In July Heat Car Show, Casper Zone Meet, and ending with the Labor Day Meet in Custer along with other shows and cruises in-between. Next year promises to be just as active with the Zone Meet in Colorado Springs. We are already planning our trip to South Bend in May and hope to see many local members there. I want to wish all my Studebaker friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! This Months Cover Car The Studebaker on this months cover is a 1954 Coupe owned by Conestoga member Steve Doerschlag. Carey Dietz snapped this picture at the Forney Museum during the Thanksgiving dinner held at the Forney every November. John & Joan Murphy made a trip to the Studebaker Museum in South Bend this fall. Joan stopped for this picture outside by the memorial bricks. With the 2017 International meet being held in South Bend, this would be a good time to check out the museum.
Western Outlook December 2016 Page 3 CONESTOGA CHAPTER PRESIDENT S REPORT There was lots of great food at our Thanksgiving potluck at the Forney Museum on November 13 th. We did learn one lesson however. We learned that we will shorten our alphabet list of persons asked to bring desserts at future potlucks. The great desserts took over the table space from the entrees and side dishes, but that didn t preclude a great meal of turkey, ham, stuffing, dumplings and gravy, salads, and a host of other delights all cooked up by our members. Once dinner concluded, we held our membership meeting, and elections for the 2017 Conestoga Chapter Board were held. The 2017 Conestoga Chapter Board will be: Deborah Hokanson, President; Jay Hokanson, Vice-President/Tourmaster; Lori Sander, Secretary; and Sheila Rink, Treasurer. Roger Zaner will continue serving as the Collector Car Council representative. Jerry and Kay Murray will be moving out of state soon. Therefore, Kay will not be continuing her administrative duties with the Sunshine Fund. Joann Beldt will take over as Sunshine Fund administrator, and will also take over the duties as membership coordinator (formerly handled by the Treasurer). Joann has been working hard this fall updating the Conestoga Chapter membership list. Once the list is finalized, she will forward it to our editor, Rick, to be sent via his listserv to all Chapter members. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the North Central Zone Meet will not be held in Moose Jaw, Canada next year. Instead, the Pikes Peak Chapter has volunteered to host the Zone Meet in Colorado Springs in 2017. Plans are for the meet to be held the first week of August (keep watching The Western Outlook for the date). The Hotel Elegante will be our host hotel, welcoming our members and offering greatly reduced room prices. Trish Harness gave us the current status of the Zone Meet, as they have already started working on planning the meet with an Old West theme. Sounds like lots of fun and surprises are on the way, so I ll update you with details as soon as I have them! Holiday Dinner December 18 th : It s already December another year has flown by.
