September Meeting Details Studebakers South of the Border By Guadalupe Taylor As a child, I was not interested in cars at all. Nevertheless, I remember very well my aunt s and uncle s cars, which were Studebakers. I remember the shiny and pointy nose of my aunt s car, which she called Blueish because of its color. But I just called it the rat. My uncle owned a car that I simply called the yellow Studebaker, but I believe it was a Golden Hawk. They really loved their Studebakers. There are three car museums in Mexico, and each one has gems owned by different persons. The Museo del Automóvil, located in Mexico City, was opened in 1991 by Arturo Perez Gutierrez. The collection includes more than 120 cars of numerous makes. You could also visit the Museo de Autos y del Transporte in Monterrey, which shows cars from the early 1900s into the 60s. It has more than 60 cars from around the world. The third museum, the Museo del Automovil de Puebla, is located in the city of Puebla. The love of Studebakers has transcended borders. Those cars have been popular not only in Mexico but all over Latin America. Through the years, countries like Colombia, Chile, and Argentina have shown their passion for Studebakers as well as other old cars. For example, Bernardo Eggers Reccious owns the Auto Museum Moncopulli, the first museum of classic cars in Chile. It is mostly dedicated to Studebakers and has Chile s biggest collection of postwar vehicles. Visit http://www.moncopulli.cl/index.php/galeria for more information on this collection. On the following page are a few photos representing the museums mentioned in this article. Enjoy! Recipe Corner - Thanks to Hellen Attaway for the following recipe: Buttermilk Pound Cake 1 cup butter or Crisco 1/3 teaspoon soda 3 cups sugar 5 eggs 3 cups plain flour 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup buttermilk Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir the soda into the buttermilk and add alternately with the flour. Add vanilla flavoring. Pour into well greased tube pan and bake for 1 ½ hours in a 325-degree oven. ***Suggest checking the cake after 1 hour for doneness. -Hellen Attaway- Coming next month: Hellen Attaway s recipe for Cream Cheese Pound Cake - 2 -

Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
