Dundee Zadar The review of our partnership 1959 Decision of the Dundee City Council on establishing closer relationship with the City of Zadar; End of 90-ies: renewal of old ties (mainly correspondence between the two local self-government), crucial role of Earl of Dundee in reviving cooperation; 2012 presentation of Zadar & Šibenik in Dundee (cca 20 persons involved); 2013 initiating mutual work on the C2C project ; 2013 & 2014 participation in the Twinning Youth Festival (10 persons involved); August 2014 signing of the Agreement on Friendship.

Zadar within the European Cities Networks EWT (European Walled Towns) since 1991 Kooperationsnetzwerk Europäischer Mittelstädte since 1997 FAIC (Forum of the Adriatic and Ionian Cities) since 1999 ENPP (European Network of Places of Peace) since 2011 Energy Cities since 2013

MOTIVES FOR TWINNINGS: PAST, PRESENT PAST: historical /political/ideological reasons; compatibility and similarity in various fields; PRESENT: economic, compatibility and similarity in various fields; EU membership, tourism development.

BENEFITS OF TWINNINGS: Promoting idea of peace, tollerance and understanding; Learning about new culture, tradition, language; Exchange of knowledge, experience, ideas; Internship opportunities; Job opportunities; Sharing of know-how and working on EU projects as partners.

POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES/PROBLEMS Shortage of personnel in charge of international cooperation and projects and lack of continuous and thorough work on each partnership; Fundings ; Distance; Language (less and less problem); Different education systems/programmes/holiday time; lack of new ideas and creativity in cooperation programmes.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS Strengthening capacities within the local self government units for working on the international cooperation and EU documentation and projects; Identifying single responsibilities and persons for each project and initiative; Involving volunteers; Introducing more regular meetings where and when necessary (even Skype conferences and similar).
