Bergerac, February, 28 th 2012 AERET MEETING IN CROATIA June 2012, 26th to 28th in Pustara Višnjica Dear colleagues, The 2012 AERET meeting will be held in Pustara Višnjica in the Slavonia region of Croatia from June, 26th to 28th. With this invitation we would like to give you some brief information on the place, transportation and the preliminary program. Pustara Višnjica is located in the Slavonia region in Virovitičko-Podravska County, just 13 km from Slatina. MEETING PLACE MEETING PLACE

1. Meeting Place : TOURISTIC & ECOLOGICAL ESTATE "PUSTARA VIŠNJICA" (http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/sectors/tourism/eden/themes-destinations/countries/croatia/pustaravisnjica/index_en.htm) Pustara (Mađ. Puzsta) indicates the vast land intended for livestock, overall for breeding horses. Pustara were the forms of organized and planned urban collective housing specific for Slavonia, Baranja, and Hungary during the 18th and 19th century. Flanking them are the endless Slavonian plains owned by noble families inhabited by landless people skilled in various crafts related to horses and cattle breeding as well as farming. There were several hundred Pustara s in Slavonia and Baranja and now, as a single entity, only Pustara Višnjica is being restored. First written record is associated with the purchase of Višnjica in 1841. After only one century it became one of the most developed estate in Western part of Slavonia. In the time of its economical and demographical uprise its owners were German Duke Schaumburg-Lippe and later on Count Ivan Drašković. The estate was functioning completely on its own; they had an alcohol factory, an elementary school, a shop, a clinic, a power station on restorable energy sources. There lived more than 200 people. Today, there are no permanent inhabitants but the idea is to create various types of tourism and a functional agricultural production. Pustara Višnjica is situated in the Virovitičko-podravska county, only 13 km from Slatina, 25 km from Virovitica, 40 km from Terezino Polje (border crossing to Hungary), 100 km from Osijek and 170 km from Zagreb, capital of Croatia. In its vicinity, in Novaki, there's a runway for small aircrafts. Today on the estate there are two companies that are spread over 250 hectares of land: Pustara Višnjica Ltd. and agricultural cooperative Ergela Višnjica. Both companies are privately owned by the same person and supplement themselves by the use of equipment, land, human resources in the implementation of five economic subroutines. Estate Pustara Višnjica received the award of European Destination of Excellence 2011. PUSTARA VIŠNJICA, ltd. Business, rural and ecotourism are the main activities of Pustara Višnjica. In the very heart of the estate, surrounded by magnificent old trees remaining in park from former Count and Duke, renovated buildings are located: hotel and hostel Višnjica *** and several luxury suites. Accommodation facilities on the estate "Višnjica" are arranged in a circle of about two hundred meters, to accommodate guests, we offer a few units, depending on the type and requirements of the customer. Hotel Višnjica *** has a capacity of 17 double rooms, 4 of which are adapted for disabled persons, 1 single room, two multidisciplinary halls with capacity of 20 and 60 persons and a restaurant with capacity of 160 persons. The capacity of Višnjica hostel is 47 beds in single, double and triple rooms. AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE "ERGELA VIŠNJICA" Its main activities are: breeding and selling Quarter and Paint horses, breeding and selling fallow deer and mouflon, crop cultivation, fruit and flower-growing, vegetable-growing and farming, ecological production of agricultural and food products. Ergela Višnjica is standing out at ecological production of sweet potato and breeding of Quarter and Paint horses and fallow-deer. The breeding of fallow-deer is taking place on a dislocated farm, 7 km north of the estate, where we organise Robinson type of tourism. The two estates are connected with country roads which are ideal for bikeways and riding horses. Visit the website for Pustara Višnjica (http://www.visnjica.hr)
