SILVER PINES NURSING AND REHAB CENTER JUNE 18 Several members brought their vehicles to Silver Pines for the enjoyment of the patients there. Many of the patients were Vets and it was very nice to have conversations with them, especially when they reminisced about their first vehicles. Everyone, BAC and patients alike, enjoyed the day.

2016 POWER TOUR by Bill Szelag Here are some of the pictures I took at the recent Hot Rod Power Tour. Jeff Kirk rode along with me to Baytown, and back in the 70 Cutlass Convertible, but since we came back on Monday headed to COTA right by the house, we picked up the 442 W30, and also added Tom Jackson as a rider for the afternoon at COTA. Headed back home, all of about 22 miles from COTA. On Tuesday morning I got the 2006 Corvette out and Tom and I headed up to Taylor, about 36 miles north and watched well over 1000 cars head through downtown for about 2-3 hours, and then took off up towards Dallas, but did not go all the way to the next venue in Grand Prairie. We then hit a BBQ place around Crawford and headed back. It was a great experience and another one off the car guy Bucket List. It would be a great event to go to with a group of cars and people. We met quite a few people that were doing that and had done it for many years together. Looks like next year the Tour will be starting in Kansas City as it always starts the following year close to where it ended. Gary Baker and Jim Kennedy also attended the HRPT at COTA, and Tom and Rue Toovey were Long Haulers, driving the entire tour from Baytown to Kansas City. Also along on the tour were Tom s sister, Pam Higby, and brother, Jim Toovey, in his sister s 1967 Camaro that was originally purchased by Tom s dad. BAC DAY AT FREE REIN B&B JUNE 25 With many thanks to Frank and Connie Reichert, who once again welcomed the Cruisers to their property. We met at Walgreen s and caravanned to their place in LaGrange. The Reichert s provided the meats and the Cruisers provided the sides and drinks. Frank took several of us on a tour of the home that was originally built in 1950 with an addition added in 1960. It evidently was such an interesting tour that Liz, Shirley, and even our host were still indoors talking and missed the group picture. Sorry, folks, but Frank did say he would invite us again in the future, and next time we ll do a head count to be sure we re all in there.
HARRY AND CHERYL GREEN S WAGON AT HEB HEB requested and the Greens delivered their 57 Chevy Delivery truck. HEB needed to jazz up their produce display and what better to do that than with this vehicle. It s not every day that you can drive through the front doors of HEB. It was as fun experience for Harry and Cheryl and an opportunity to help out one of the sponsors of our car show. And a reminder will be going out asking Cruisers to bring their vehicles to HEB on Saturday, July 16 to help them out again. It s a win-win for the Cruisers who got new members during the display last year, and also a chance to sell
THIS AND THAT NEW MEMBERS: Welcome to new members, Billy and Danielle Williams. The Williams have two vehicles, a 55 Chevy BelAir, and a 64 Corvette Stingray. As soon as I can get a picture of Billy and Danielle I ll have it in a future newsletter so that you can spot them at a meeting and personally welcome them to the club. LOOK WHAT STEVE DEWIRE SPOTTED IN TOKYO Steve sent along these photos of this shop showing some true American memorabilia. He says he wants that couch. Who wouldn t? It would be quite the conversation piece in someone s garage. No, not in the living room, guys. THE CRUISERS ARE IN THE MOVIES Jeff Hughes negotiated a deal with the Lost Pines 8 Theater and in the near future you will see the Bastrop Area Cruisers Veteran s Day Car Show flyer appear on the big screen. And you will recognize the voice telling all about the show. The voiceover belongs to Maria Hughes who did a great job getting all the information into a 15-second spot. So put down the cell phone and the popcorn and pay attention to our ad. We are in the movies!!
