Volume 21, Issue 5 May 2006 HAPA FLYOUT March 25, 2006 The Blue Pig Barbecue at Ardmore Municipal Airport, Ardmore, OK OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF HICKS AIRFIELD PILOTS ASSN F L A P P I N G S After having the scheduled March Fly Out cancelled due to weather, we had a great turnout for the alternate to Ardmore Municipal for lunch at the Blue Pig Barbecue next to the FBO. If you missed it, you missed a chance to have the Saturday special, fried pig droppings! Believe me, it was your loss. When we took over the ramp it looked more like an RV fly-in. We had 7 RV s, including Mike Heberling s RV-10, one RV4, one RV6, three RV6a s, one RV8, a Super Viking, a Mooney, and a Bonanza. The tower wasn t really busy, even with the P-3 Orions that were shuffling in an out to local fires, but we woke the controller up when we all started arriving within minutes of each other. If you haven t been to Ardmore lately, the airport is undergoing a huge resurfacing on the main runway and taxiway. Everyone was given the opportunity to see the entire airport since the cross taxiway was also closed. On the way back to Hicks we witnessed just how great the RV-10 flies, even if it did only have one person on board. Mike outclimbed us from the #4 spot and proceeded to disappear into the southern horizon. Make plans to join us in June. We are trying to arrange a museum tour at Tyler Pounds Field. They just recently unveiled their newest acquisition, an F4 Phantom. Tyler is only about an hour flight for most and less for some. See you then!

MEETING NOTICE HAPA Board Of Directors Meeting 7:00pm Tuesday, May 9, 2006 Hangar 549 Page 2

President s Corner On Friday April 14th a Town Hall Meeting was held to allow everyone to comment on the proposed Airfield Rules and Regulation. Approximately 200 people attended which was probably a record for any HAPA function where free food wasn t served. Many good ideas were presented and I assure all of you that all of your ideas are being seriously considered. One of the suggestions was the formation of committees to review and further refine the proposed rules. I fully agree with this approach and as I am writing this article these committees are already being organized. I hope to have at least interim reports from each of the committees by the May 9th BOD Meeting and final recommendations no later than the July BOD Meeting. On a different subject a member approached me after the Town Hall Meeting and asked about the feasibility of a restroom facility for T-hangar owners. This would be a welcome and sorely needed addition to the field, not only for the T-hangar owners but for transient pilots as well. The CCR's, as well as Tarrant County regulations, limit our options but surely we can come up with something creative and affordable. Suggestions are welcome. In the interim, I encourage anyone with a restroom to be as neighborly as possible. I encourage all of us to unite in the quest to make and keep Hicks a First Class Private Airfield.
