President s Message Well, Memorial Day weekend has come and gone. I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday. We went to Farmer s Market in Clovis last Friday May 25 th and got really rained upon. We certainly need the rain, so that was a good thing. We were in our Beach Bum Tin Woody, so while everyone else were having to wipe down and worry about water spots, it just added more character to our woody. I was very happy with the response from the Chevy Club members to our Tin Woody. My neighbor wants to know when I was planning to paint it and was shocked when I told her I was going to let it stay the way it is. I am finally working on my Safari again. Just finished installing the new wire harness and managed to get the under the dash wiring all connected. Now for the engine compartment and the tail end. Hope to start the motor pretty soon; it s only been in the car for two years, so maybe it s time. Looks like summer is almost here, time to get out and enjoy our classics and street rods. Happy Poncho trails. Saturday night we went to Chubby s at First and Gettysburg and showed the woody. The Berglund clan, Joel and Judy, Bill and Judy, and Dennis Baker dropped by and gave the woody their blessings. Thanks guys!! We will be taking it to some of the local shows and get-togethers from time to time, but will be taking our Nomad to most of the shows we participate in until the Safari is on the road. Keith Watts KEITH WATTS, POCC PRESIDENT 2

MINUTES OF MAY, 2012 BUSINESS MEETING The meeting was called to order by President Watts at 7:03 PM. Visitors/Guests: Mike King Minutes of the April 9, 2012 meeting: The minutes from the April 9, 2012 meeting were reviewed. MOTION BY RON BERGLUND, SECONDED BY JACK FUSARI AND CARRIED TO APPROVE MINUTES AS PRESENTED Treasurers Report: Bill Truckell provided the Treasurers report up to the beginning of April. It was stated that the Madera Car Show finances would be presented when everything was in. However, tentative information was given that indicated the club had made a profit with this event. Newsletter Report: John Berglund thanked members for the pictures from the Madera Car show. Website Report: Brian Massey thanked Ron Berglund for the pictures he provided of the Madera Car Show and stated that the website would be updated with the car show pictures. Old Business: Madera Car Show--Sam fisher reported that the Madera Tribune has published several pictures taken at the Madera Car show. Brian Massey reported that all of the leftover food from the car show has been sold. After considering the lunches provided to the judges a net profit was realized on the food sales during the car show. He thanked all of the food booth volunteers. Sam Fisher further reported that the show had 87 entries with 4 no shows. Ron Berglund stated that POCI President Les Iden has arranged for the large diesel transport and dozer unit to be featured in an upcoming Smoke Signals edition. In addition, the classic police car at the car show may also be highlighted. New Business: Gas Reimbursement Discussion occurred on the possibility or need to reimburse members for expenses while working on assignments in support of club activities. The general consensus was that volunteers would have to support their own expenses when doing club activities. MOTION BY JOEL GARRETT TO REQUIRE THAT ANY VOLUNTEER CONDUCTING CLUB ACTIVITIES DO IT AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. Motion was withdrawn MOTION BY JOEL GARRETT SECONDED BY BRIAN MASSEY AND CARRIED THAT MEMBERS WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR PERSONAL EXPENSES FOR CLUB ACTIVITIES UNLESS PREAPPROVED BY THE CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS Co-hosting a Western Regional in Sept 2013 President Watts opened discussion on the issue regarding the club co-hosting a future Western Regional with the Bakersfield club. He stated that he as personally against doing this but asked for input. Brian Massey clarified that he approached by a Bakersfield club member during the Madera Car Show with the idea of co-hosting this event. It was stated that he told the Bakersfield club member that is was Ok to talk about and to consider doing this but not a commitment as announced by this member at the car show. Sam fisher suggested that a committee be appointed to meet and discuss these issues and all of the concerns with the Bakersfield club before making a decision regarding this matter. 3

MINUTES OF MAY, 2012 CONTINUED Various concerns were raised along with those suggested by Joel Garrett earlier. It was a consensus that the club should appoint the committee suggested by Sam fisher and withhold a decision on hosting or not, for a future meeting. A show of hands supporting this was asked for and a majority responded as in favor. Sam Fisher, Ron Berglund, Brian Massey, Joel Garrett and Bill Richards were appointed to the committee. Dennis Schwarz suggested that a member not in support of doing the Regional should be on the committee. It was clarified that the committee was to only explore the possibility and feasibility of doing this, not to make a decision for it. Members were asked to email any other questions or concerns to one of the committee members and they would be addressed. Past Activities: Joel Garrett was recognized for organizing club participation at the Kingsburg Car Show. Don Senior reported that he and Ron Berglund had participated in the car show at the Jefferson Elem. School in Clovis. Both won awards. The ladies lunch for April was held at the Daily Grill with 6 members present. The May lunch will be at Mimi s. Future Activities: Ron Berglund presented a report on future club activities. It was agreed that a club event will occur the 3 rd Thurs of each month at the Pavilion West Shopping Center located at West/Bullard in Fresno. The cruise in begins about 6PM but you should try to arrive by 5:30. It was reported the Rods on the Bluffs event is still being held on the first Friday of each month at Palm/Nees in Fresno. The next show will have an American graffiti theme. Several other upcoming events were discussed and flyers will be included in the newsletter. Joel Garrett stated that he would like to plan a BBQ/cruise to Bass Lake sometime this summer. Information to follow. Attendance drawing: Ren Hallett was the lucky winner but he was absent. Next month s drawing will total $20. The meeting was concluded at 8:04 PM Minutes taken by Cheryl Richards 4

Sierra View Elementary School Carnival Car Show Madera Ranchos - May 5, 2012 Several members attended a recent car show that was part of the Sierra View Elementary School Carnival. This was the 3 rd annual car show for this event and proved to be a fun day for club members and other car owners in attendance. Interesting entries included a 50 cc mini dragster, a 1968 Buick drag car, a fully restored 1962 T-Bird Roadster and a recent issue Carroll Shelby Cobra 427. The Cobra was built on an original Shelby NOS cobra body that was released in 2008/09. A lot of nice cars for a small country school car show. Club members Curt Gunderson, Carl and Robbin Smith, Randy Beavers and Bill and Cheryl Richards attended this car show. 6
