The Californian RV Resort Acton, California Larry & Shirley Zollinger, Wagon Masters Greg & Karla Bechner, CO-Wagon Masters February 16-19, 2016 Tuesday February 16 Wagon Masters Larry and Shirley Zollinger and Tommy, Co-Wagon Masters Greg and Karla Bechner welcomed Bob and Paula Gorges, Lorraine Brockway, Marjorie Morrison, Greg and Nancy Walczynski, Karen and Randy Childs, Clair and Orin Gilbertson, Jerry and Connie Just, Darrell and Barbara Gury for a total of 10 coaches to Californian RV Resort in Acton California the site of the outing. After settling in the group caravanned to Crazy Otto s Dinner in Acton for dinning and fellowship. Wednesday February17th the group played games of bean bag baseball and ladder toss in the RV parks grassed recreational area. That afternoon the group carpooled to Placerita Canyon Natural Area an eastwest running canyon featuring cool, shaded oak groves, a willow and sycamore-lined seasonal stream and numerous other plant and animal communities. Placerita Canyon Natural Area was formally used by cattle ranching, oil production, and Hollywood movie production prior to becoming a State of California Park. The park is on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains southeast of the City of Santa Clarita serving to conserve a slice of the wild environment, educate the public on the value of undisturbed flora and fauna through wild animal presentations, and environmental hikes. Larry and Shirley had pre-arranged State of California Ranger Frank to greet the group and provide a guided educational hiking tour highlighting nature, history, oak woodland, chaparral, and the riparian plants. Along the trail the group saw the historic and restored landmark Walker Cabin, built by Frank Walker in 1920 for his family who raised 12 children in the cabin. The Walker Family owned the property from the early 1900 s to 1950, when it was sold to the State of California. At the trails end was the historic Oak of the Golden Dream the site of California s original gold discovery in 1842 by Francisco Lopez. Returning to the Parks Nature center our group had a private showing by Ranger Frank of a tethered Falcon named Tidbit, and a California Golden Tarantula named Blonde. Evening dinner was prepared and provided by the Wagon Masters in the parks club house, a feast of beef or turkey tacos with all the fixing, rice and beans for dinning plus deserts. The evening entertainment was the dice game called LCR, left, right, and center. Thursday February 18 th the High Desert Rig Runners had their Club meeting at 1030. Afternoon activities for the ladies consisted of build your bunny craft pin craft in the parks club house. The guys played games of pool challenging each other. Evening meal consisted of a make your best soup contest in Club House. Prizes were given out for the best soups; first place went to Clair; second place to team Lorraine, Paula, Barbara, Karen; third place to Nancy; and fourth place to Marjorie. Honorable mention to Connie whose soup was unknown as the bottom fell out of the crock pot in her motor home during preparation! Evening entertainment was card bingo by Karla. Friday February 19 th the Wagon Masters provided a get-a-way Breakfast in the club house with everyone saying their goodbyes until we see each other next month. Thanks for attending our camp-out.
