Welcome to the musée des impressionnismes Giverny! Giverny has become famous the world over thanks to Claude Monet, who painted his series of Water-lilies there, amongst other works. As a result, this charming village in Normandy became one of the centres of Impressionism. The musée des impressionnismes Giverny provides an opportunity to discover this artistic movement in all diversity and from every perspective, including its influences and repercussions. Thanks to the museum s two exhibitions per year, supplemented by its permanent display, Monet in the Middle, visitors can see masterpieces from around the world and gain a better understanding of Impressionism. Exhibitions Monet Auburtin. An Artistic Encounter 22 March 14 July 2019 Ker-Xavier Roussel. Private Garden, Dreamed Garden 27 July 11 November 2019 10 years of collecting 22 March 4 November 2019 SEASON 2019
Monet Auburtin. An Artistic Encounter 22 March 14 July 2019 To mark its tenth anniversary, the musée des impressionnismes Giverny has decided to celebrate the work of Claude Monet by comparing it with that of his contemporary, the Symbolist painter Jean-Francis Auburtin (1866 1930). After discovering Monet s work on display in Paris, Auburtin chose to follow in the master s footsteps. From Belle-Île and Étretat to Pourville, Varengeville and Provence, he began indefatigably painting the magnificent beauty of these sites. The exhibition brings together a large selection of Auburtin s paintings and drawings, together with several of Monet s most remarkable works with the aim of presenting two different visions of the same landscapes. Ker-Xavier Roussel. Private Garden, Dreamed Garden 27 July 11 November 2019 The exhibition Ker-Xavier Roussel. Private Garden, Dreamed Garden will present around one hundred works by the painter Ker-Xavier Roussel (1867 1944), ranging from his Nabis experiments of the 1890s to his huge, powerful mythological narrative works, which he worked on at the turn of the 20th century. The exhibition will showcase the artist s decorative power, as well as prints evoking the melancholy of turn-of-the-century Symbolism. The show will also provide an opportunity to reconstitute certain decorative works that have been split up and whose format and colour palette are sure to come as a surprise. 10 years of collecting 22 March 4 November 2019 When the museum opened in 2009, the acquisition of a drawing by Pierre Bonnard of Marthe Bonnard and Claude Monet in Giverny was an affirmation of its desire to put together a collection, in addition to mounting emblematic temporary exhibitions. The museum has thus acquired two hundred and fifty works paintings, drawings, photographs and letters thanks in particular to the generosity of donors, as well as the assistance of the Société d Amis du Musée and a large fundraising scheme. The exhibition 10 ans d une collection will offer an overview of the collection and will include nihonga works and photographs of Normandy landscapes, alongside paintings by Impressionist contemporaries of Claude Monet, such as John Leslie Breck, Maurice Denis and Gustave Caillebotte.
