SWMMC MONTHLY September 5, 201 6 Volume 3, Issue 7 SOUTHWEST METRO MUSTANG CLUB WWW.SOUTHWESTMETROMUSTANGCLUB.COM THE TWIN CITIES MUSTANG CLUB OF AMERICA CHAPTER Getting Started As the year winds down we need to have a few good meetings to set the foundation for next year's fun and events. I know it sounds pre-mature, but many dates and details need to be set by January 5th for the 2017 season. Don't shoot me, but that is four months away. We simply can't put off planning until after the first of the year and expect to get the participation and promotion needed to keep folks informed on what we are doing. That is why the September, October and November meetings are so critical for input and volunteers. This is food for thought. We will need to elect a new club president and show boss this year. I am willing to be heavily involved in transitioning both positions, but if we are to be serious about the national show, I can t hold three positions. Getting new blood into the leadership and planning for the club is good for variety and building a robust organization. Both jobs come with some responsibility and work, but we have a solid foundation of what works and how to go about the jobs. Please consider stepping into one of these roles. Thanks. We had 18 cars attend. The constant light to medium rain fall dampened attendance for at large participants and club members alike. We had cars from all four name plates that braved the weather. Three garage owners were nice enough to open their places for folks to explore. Ford Motor was there with a brand new Focus RS, and muscle car book author Darwin Holmstrom was there to discuss cars. I want to thank Cub Foods Chanhassen for donating 100 donuts and the Chanhassen Caribou for donating coffee for the show. And the Auto Motorplex Association for allowing us to host the show. Many cars of spectators arrived to view the show during the morning. It was hard to see them leave disappointed with the poor turn out Given the lack of participation the club lost $153.26 for the show. All attendees won a door prize. I personally want to thank the few SWMMC members that made the effort to help run the show. Without your help, the SWMMC would have taken a black eye for running a poor show. Thank you. SWMMC M ONTHLY September 5, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 7 Page 2 SWMMC TID-BITS We will be ordering more club t-shirts per a vote at the August meeting. Derf has identified a local shop that is giving us similar pricing to the place we have used before. The shirts will be dark blue again. Expect shirts in October. We have received a supply of catalogs from Mustangs Plus in addition to ten $25 gift coupons for on-line parts orders. If you are interested in a catalog they will be at the 9/11 show and the Sept & Oct meetings. NF Upper Midwest is hosting a charity wine and chocolate tasting event on the evening of Saturday September 10. For more information visit www.nfuppermidwest. org/events.aspx. National Mustang Museum Brick The National Mustang Museum finally broke ground a few weeks ago in North Carolina. They expect to be open to the public in about a year. I have registered the SWMMC on the Friends of the Museum page.. They are selling bricks with messages or club names on them for $100 to $250 apiece. The club voted to buy a $200 brick engraved as Southwest Metro Mustang Club, Minneapolis, MN. When I have definite information on the purchase I will pass along our effort to immortalize the club in the National Mustang Museum.

Our last club show for 2016 is just 3 weeks away and we need your help! We need you to participate and help with what is shaping up to be a great day of cars and civic respect. The following positions and shifts are where we need assistance: *Initial Set-up* 4 people 8:00am -10 *Registration* 3 people 8:30-10:30, 2 people 10:30 - noon, 2 people noon - 2 *Parking Lot* 4 people 8:30-10:30, 2 people 10:30 - noon, 2 people noon - 2 *RC Car Laps* 2 people 11 1 *Ballot Counting* 3 people 1:30-2:30 *Clean up* 3 people 3 3:30 Five people have volunteered thus far thank you! There will be a place for people to free will donate to the Wounded Warrior Family Support charity and NO registration fee! Because of our sponsor's donations, we will be having Top 21 trophies AND door prizes! There will be many cars that we don t typically see in the South metro as well as historic military vehicles, motorcycles, and fire trucks. Eateries are close with a Subway, Texas Roadhouse and the food by the Boy Scouts all near by. Four area fire stations will have fire trucks and first responders on site all day. We really need your help, so if you can please respond to this email with what you would like to do from above, or indicate so in your RSVP to the calendar invite which just went out. We hope to see you there...pete

SWMMC M ONTHLY September 5, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 7 Page 4 SWMMC AUGUST CRUISE TO DAHL AUTO MUSEUM The club cruised to the Dahl Auto Museum in LaCrosse, WI on August 6th. Eleven cars and 20 SWMMC members made the trip. The weather cooperated for a wonderful drive down to LaCrosse. The Dahl Auto Museum has a fantastic collection of cars and automobilia on display. Items including dealership advertising, gas pumps, hood ornaments, and displays all chronicle the Dahl family s history in the automobile industry. Cars range from a 2015 Mustang to 1950 s crusiers to early Model A s. All a restored to immaculate condition. The group of 18 people made their way to Rudy s Drive-in for lunch. The club had reserved parking up front. Everything was tasty! Thanks again to Dan and Lynn Nicewander for putting together a fun cruise.

SWMMC MONTHLY September 5, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 7 Page 5 SWMMC Cruise to Derf & Nancy Hoisington s House On Sunday August 28th the club cruised to Derf and Nancy Hoisington s house for a BBQ potluck lunch. We had nine cars (18 people) make the trip. The route was fun, and the leader made only a couple minor changes along the way. County Road O was especially fun. The food was excellent with many choices Derf s pulled pork was really good. The Hoisington s have a beautiful location and great set-up for a BBQ and picnic. The club comradery and conversation was good to see. There is talk of making the trip an annual event, which I think is a good idea. Thanks to Derf and his family for hosting our group.

The SWMMC wishes to thank the following businesses for their generous donations at our shows Steve & Judy Gunderson

SWMMC MONTHLY September 5, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 7 Page 8 Cruise Invitations Dan Nicewander has set up Google calendar to send invites to club cruises (and possibly other club events) via email. The plan is to send everyone on the club email list an invite a few days after the previous month s cruise, and a reminder invite a week before the cruise. Club members just need to reply to the invite by selecting Yes I am going, Maybe, or No. The invite serves as a way to make sure everyone knows about our cruises, and also a tool to gauge interest and attendance. The September cruise is the fourth cruise to be scheduled using Google. As of this writing we have 10 cars with 18 people planning on attending the cruise. In Memory I am sad to report that club member Curt Otterholt passed away on August 28th. Curt joined the club in July of 2016. Curt had been an avid auto racer and involved in the local professional wrestling scene. You can visit the gofundme page for Curt to learn more about the situation leading to his passing. https:// www.gofundme.com/2khc3cb9 Take advantage of the invites when they arrive in your in box. Club Email Issues The club is moving to Mail Chimp for club emails. Both Shutterfly and Google Mail have experienced issues recently that have rendered them nearly useless for use in communicating to a group. SWMMC September Cruise Saturday, 8:30AM-4:00PM. Leaving Marschall Road Transit Station, 1615 Weston Court, Shakopee, MN at 830AM. The route we've chosen will take ~90 mins, leaving us 30-45 min to walk around the area before the 11AM boat departure. Box lunches will be provided for us on the boat, included in the price of the cruise which is $22 for adults and $19 for seniors. To get this amazing deal you must pre-register by Wed 9/7 and pay $10 (non-refundable) for this cruise via Paypal or connecting with Dan. The remainder of the fee will be collected the day of the cruise. You can still join us on the cruise if you decide to come after this date, but the price will be standard pricing without the lunch. We will take 169 N, to 494 E, to Pilot Knob Road where we will pick up any folks from the East side at 9AM at the Holiday Station, 2660 Eagan Woods Dr in Eagan. Then we'll return to 494E, to 694 N, to 36 E, to 95 N, to 310th St E into Taylors Falls. At the main intersection we'll turn right onto Bench St which takes us into the parking area for the boat cruise.

Wow...another year has almost gone since our last gathering on the shore of Thole Lake. This year has been crazy busy for us, as I'm sure it has for you as well, but...mbtl is coming...and it's going to be better than ever! The sponsors are being supportive, the grill is just waiting to be fired up, and Shelby The Wonder Pup's ACL is all healed so she'll be waiting to greet you with a wet lick again this year (she was really bummed to miss MBTL5). A change this year is that with the generosity of our sponsors, we've been able to increase the number of goodie bags available to include up to the FIRST 50 (!) families who bring a ride(s) this year! The goodie bags contain a lot of fun things...the coolest of course being our 6th year commemorative dash plaque. See this year's logo design above...everyone loves the General right? Check out our website for the latest and greatest including changes due to weather: MuscleByTheLake.yolasite.com Hope to see you in three weeks! Dan, Lynn and Shelby TWP...
